So while at the DMV registering my new car (Black 2015 GT Premium PP) a storm rolled in with near golf ball sized hail. Nothing I could do but just stand there staring out the window watching my car get beat up for about 20 minutes. It felt like it was never going to end.

Even worse is that it was my work from home day and if it weren't for getting out to register the car, it would have been home safely in my garage.

The hood, roof, trunk, and some of the sides are dented up pretty bad. Also, a real great person :frusty: didn't put their shopping cart in a corral so when I finally got out to the car, there was a cart slammed up against the driver fender which left a nice dent and scratch.

I've been so demoralized ever since. My appointment with insurance is next Thursday.

Anyone with any tips on how to proceed with this particular car? I spent 6 years as a claims examiner so I'm familiar with PDR and the process but am wondering if there's anything else to know given this is brand flippin new.

Ouch man sorry to hear, saw the news this morning talking about bad weather up by you.

I think dent repair is pretty easy and painless as long as any seams or lines aren't damaged.

Got any pics you can post?

And about the shopping cart, that bugs me a lot too....fucking lazy

Sorry to hear about this. I have a friend who owns a Dent Clinc in my city. They can do some pretty amazing things. But it sure can add up quick in the case of hail damage.

Not sure if you will find this funny given your current state of mind, but is somewhat on topic of hail damage prevention and might provide a bit of comic relief:

Damn...I thought I was in the same boat last night. We had a storm roll through about 11:00 and it was a bad one. Just south of us the were reporting large damaging hail 2 hours earlier.
Just last May 23rd, we were hit with a mother of a hail storm at home. Did $7000 damage to the wifes 2013 Honda Pilot and $11,000 to my roof on the house.
I was ready to run out in the middle of it all with quilts and covers if I saw hail falling.
I might have left the hood uncovered if there were some good aftermarkets out there yet.

This got me to thinking. Maybe invest in something like this to keep in the trunk.

I saw an episode of Shark Tank where a guy came up with a cover that you could pull out of your car on the side of the road, throw over the car and plug into the exhaust and inflate a cushion over the top of the car.
They didn't want to have anything to do with it.
Reasons they shot it down were; dangerous carbon monoxide gasses, no way to egress the car after inflated, takes too long to get into place, that's what insurance is for, bla, bla, bla. I thought it was a good idea, but there needed to be a way to inflate it and keep it inflated with the car turned off.

I had a brand new '85 Bronco HO.I lived in FL and almost never saw hail.Of course with my new car out doors it started to hail and I did what you spoke of ,grabbed a bed quilt and covered my car.It worked and I experienced no damage.
I feel sorry for the op. I now live in E.TN and it hails like crazy here. From the amount of beat up new cars I see in parking lots, they dont even try to fix them. They just sell them cheap to someone who doesnt care.

I was driving to work yesterday and my wife called me about the impending storm. I pulled off at Manchester and 270 and went to our main office because they had a covered garage. Road it out there. i am sweating because of the storms for today and tomorrow may have hail as well.

Sorry to hear. good luck.

FYI, there is potential for hail in the mid-atlantic region on Friday. We had some brief hail last summer but it was the size of peas so no damage.

That was hilarious! This guy probably did more damage to the roof due to his body weight than the hail itself.

Hey all, thanks for the words of encouragement. I've been sulking like a little girl all week. I tried snapping some pics but with the black, it's hard to get a good angle. There's hundreds of dents in it. Looks like my car just got a bad case of cellulite.

My appointment is a week from today for the inspection. I'll update the thread on what the say. I'd imagine over 7-8k at least. I'm primarily worried it won't quite look the same after the repairs. I could care less about the $100 comp ded.

And lol at the video, I was seriously considering going all human shield on it at the time. I would pay to see the video of me tossing the shopping cart across the parking lot at the time (I did it respectfully, as in didn't get anywhere near any other vehicles and left it on its side so it wouldn't roll into another car :p ) ... was so pissed.
