I would take a Honda Accord over the Audi A4. Honda Accord can be had in manual transmission and I feel I could abuse it with impunity. If / when something breaks, parts are relatively cheap.

The Germans have a fair amount of difficulty making cars that pass the IIHS small overlap crash test. $37k + for a 4-banger is a lot of money to have a P(oor) rating:

http://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/vehicle/v/audi/a4-4-door-sedan
When is the last time you looked at the cost of Honda parts?

It's not 1995 any more. And if you try and "abuse" a Honda, it will fall apart. Their transmissions are so weak that Honda had to release a TSB to tell owners not to skip gears when shifting, because the synchros are undersized and extremely weak. The Civic Si made national news due to the problems with the poorly built, weak 6 speed; never mind the automatics, which have the highest failure rate of any transmission in the entire auto industry.

OK! The 5.0 can't compete with an accord.

Sorry I didn't mean to bash your car. My '97...and other Hondas from that era were seemingly indestructible. Besides myself, several of my friends had late 90's Hondas and we all beat the heck out of them...yet we all got 200,000+ miles of solid life. I would have LOVED to own something else, like a cool Mustang back then, but my circumstances didn't allow. I've always been picky about my rides. Honestly I cant comment on the reliability of either the newer Hondas...or even my Audi...because these cars are just beginning their mechanical lives. My sentiment towards them comes more from how they feel.

In the Honda I could never get used to the overzealous yet vague steering feel, or extreme road noise, or the CVT that always seemed to bog down when I needed it to go, or the suspension that rode very harsh and sounded like it was going to fall out, or the overly firm seats that made me feel every bump, dim yellowish headlights that got even dimmer when the compressor would kick in, boring "premium" radio, list goes on. Again... these are just MY experiences and I didn't mean to bash anyone elses car. On the positive side though, 36mpg...even 38MPG fuel economy in a full sized car is hard to beat. And I bought for $26,000 fully loaded (with exception of V6 engine).

IMO the Audi A4 feels just perfect. The car feels freaking solid....likes its made out of recycled Panzers. And it has a real (8 speed) transmission, turbocharger, AWD, even the dang hooks in the trunk for the cargo net are made of real metal. Maintenance I'm not worried about because I do that stuff myself but I do honestly worry about if something major croaks out on me, LOL. Anyways...these are just my opinions.
No worries man. Good luck with the A4

The fact of the matter is that NOBODY with any aspirations in life will ever buy a Honda Accord. It's boring, plain, uncomfortable, cheaply built, unreliable, expensive to repair piece of crap vehicle. Perhaps you were too scared to read the article I posted since you just wasted $30K+ on a piece of crap Honda?

You've owned cars that would beat a GT350 in "any kind" of race? LOL really? Why don't you elaborate? You talk a big game, but you can't seem to back it up with any facts.

No Honda is a "pleasure to drive" unless you get the same amount of enjoyment out of driving a vehicle as you do using a washer machine or refrigerator. And it's not "worry free"; Hondas have a hell of a lot of expensive to repair problems that you seem to think will never happen to you. Keep living on hopes and dreams and see how far it gets you. We'll all be here when you fall back to reality

As far as being "great in the snow", that is just comical. No FWD economy sedan is "great in the snow" even with snow tires. If you need to drive in winter weather, you need a real 4x4 vehicle with real tires. Not some pile of crap Honda sedan. If you actually believe the crap you are posting, you are much worse off than anyone thought.
I've been on car forums for almost 20 years and I don't think I've come across anyone so incredibly ignorant before. You are so hopeless that I won't address this ridiculous laughable banter anymore than I just have.

Since everyone else gets an opinion, my turn....

In 2014 when my wife and I were shopping for a roomy, economical family hauler/road trip car we looked at 3 vehicles.

The Honda Accord, Ford Fusion, and Mazda6.

I put the Honda on the end of our list because I hate CVT transmission, overall the car wasn't bad. My coworker bought one and loved it. It's not a bad car at all, just not what we were looking for.

The Fusion was a nice car but it seemed more cramped than the others. We liked it and it would have been our choice if not for the Mazda6.

The Mazda6 is an awesome car. Transmission is fantastic, driving experience is great for a 4cyl FWD sedan and standard features and price is great.

I wish we still had it, but I wanted a Mustang lol.

I don't understand the hate on other peoples opinions. This forum is so narrow minded.

Also to go to JD survey, I remember a few years back Ford ranked low because of all the issues with MFT and sync, maybe that's what's going on? More technology and crap that is prone to failure will do that.

Sorry, but I'd rather own a Ford Fusion, than a Honda Accord. Just wouldn't do that to myself and drive around America pretending that people don't notice me in a Japanese car.

I wasn't a big fan of the Accord Sedan's myself previously. I mean there was nothing wrong with them...not bad looking or anything, just didn't care one way or the other...until the 2014 "Sport" model came out. I remember the first time I saw one on the highway, it was white and it really caught my eye...I was like wow that's a nice looking car. The wheels, spoiler and dual exhaust make a big difference.

At the time I knew my girl would be needing a new car soon so I looked into them and as I always do spent weeks reading all the reviews & watching all the youtube video reviews etc etc. ALL of them were VERY positive. The car was definitely very well reviewed.

She also loved the white ones, and after one test drive we were sold. She's had many different cars in the past, just like me, and she absolutely loves the car.

With that said, I've also heard a lot of great things about the new Mazda 6 too. Can't go wrong with either IMO.

Agreed!!

Have you seen the 2017 Fusion Sport that is coming out this year?

  • 325HP 2.7 Ecoboost
  • 350 lb-ft of Torque
  • AWD
  • Adaptive Dampening System
  • 19" Wheels

It's an ACTUAL Sport model unlike the Accord and Camry, which are nothing more than overpriced tacky appearance packages

Let's look at Honda's V8...that's right there is none. Why do you think that is true? They can't figure out how to build one? Unlikely. They don't use many turbos either. My point is, they don't build a car like your coveted 2017 Fusion because they choose not to build it. Imagine that, and they still sell a lot of cars without having to resort to gimmicks. Their philosophy is different. Don't like it? Don't buy it.

Except Toyota does make a sport coupe with a 5.0 liter V8, but it makes more power than the mustang. Here they call it a Lexus RCF.
