Actually if that's the benchmark for the comparison you wish to use to strengthen your position, it is. What are you comparing your apple to? Nothing...

Also don't assume too much. I've only purchased 3 vehicles in my life, all of them were new Mustangs. Take a guess at what my next vehicle will be...

Thought ya might get a chuckle out of the title of the article.

Lexus Tops Dependability Study In 2016, Ford Flops

They didn't say, "Dodge" instead, picked on Ford for coming in next to last-->:clap2:
While I don't disagree with the reliability ratings overall, I do wonder where they came in at considering what the original discussion was all about. Usually I see this sort of topic changing come in from the losing side.

"Yea, well... Our cars are more reliable!"

That's cool, why don't you go find a forum where everyone talks about how reliable their vehicles are. This forum is primarily about how fast our vehicles are.

You can sound as confident as you like, it doesn't change the fact that anecdotal evidence is the weakest form of evidence.

Perhaps JD Power's results are rigged, maybe they're being paid by a few companies to give out false results. Or maybe you're a Ford fanboy. Both are entirely possible, so no this isn't 100% settled.
Its fact i get more hours by a landslide at bmw. Its because they are unreliable as hell. I prefer ford but i have owned many other brands and like other companies. You fit the bill better for fanboy if all youve owned is fords. Both are not entirely possible on my end. Im not concerned if you want research, i work in the industry you do not. As well as my many other friends at most of the brands up there. I know whats actually happening. Im not worried about if you find what i know to be credible. You're a very young man that lacks experience, which isnt a bad thing. However its all i need to know.

Lots of reasons that could be outside of reliability reasons.

True, but why would a fanboy be arguing that his favorite product is inferior in some areas?

I'm not relying on my experience. I'm going off of JD Power's study.

I know what this forum is about, it's not just about how fast our vehicles are or aren't.

In all honestly this is one of the most ridiculous threads.

I throw out some information I thought was sort of pertinent to the discussion, well it once was a discussion, next thing a pissing match breaks out and for some reason I've become a villain.

Maybe someday we'll see each other at a GTG, local car show, major car show whatever. Hopefully we can talk about mustangs and not the BS that has erupted in this thread...

Like what? Since you dont have experience, tell me what your study says about that. (This is a rhetorical question, im not seriously wanting an answer)

No, but for someone thats only owned one brand it would be a better fit for someone thats only bought one brand. I dont think you are a fanboy.

Just because its a study doesnt make it more accurate than someone that has done nothing but worked on some of those brands for a decade or less each. Ive see more of some of those brands working in different dealerships in one year then they see in those studies. If you think studies are always accurate, without bias, or bribes, ive got a bridge to sell you.

If i was buying a washer & dryer or fridge, im not going to look at comsumer reports. Im going to talk to the warranty service repair guys.

Youre certainly entitled to your opinion. Im entitled to my real world experience. We will agree to disagree. I hope you have a great weekend.

Likely you loved the 97 more because your perspective was totally different at that time. When we were younger we appreciate cars we own much more. We get far more picky as we age.

Not sure where the cardboard comment comes from, our 2015 Accord feels very solid. Panel fitment is good, materials feel good, zero rattles, handling is solid with minimal flex, the doors shut with a nice thump etc., etc.

Of course an Audi will feel more premium, but Audi offers less bang for the buck and they are FAR less reliable then Honda's, generally speaking.

It's too bad too because I was considering an S3, but the expected reliability turned me away....plus I realized for the money, that a loaded S550 Mustang would be a much better bang for the buck.

As of now I'm still holding on to my 2012 GT though, as it's still keeping me plenty happy :D

Sorry I didn't mean to bash your car. My '97...and other Hondas from that era were seemingly indestructible. Besides myself, several of my friends had late 90's Hondas and we all beat the heck out of them...yet we all got 200,000+ miles of solid life. I would have LOVED to own something else, like a cool Mustang back then, but my circumstances didn't allow. I've always been picky about my rides. Honestly I cant comment on the reliability of either the newer Hondas...or even my Audi...because these cars are just beginning their mechanical lives. My sentiment towards them comes more from how they feel.

In the Honda I could never get used to the overzealous yet vague steering feel, or extreme road noise, or the CVT that always seemed to bog down when I needed it to go, or the suspension that rode very harsh and sounded like it was going to fall out, or the overly firm seats that made me feel every bump, dim yellowish headlights that got even dimmer when the compressor would kick in, boring "premium" radio, list goes on. Again... these are just MY experiences and I didn't mean to bash anyone elses car. On the positive side though, 36mpg...even 38MPG fuel economy in a full sized car is hard to beat. And I bought for $26,000 fully loaded (with exception of V6 engine).

IMO the Audi A4 feels just perfect. The car feels freaking solid....likes its made out of recycled Panzers. And it has a real (8 speed) transmission, turbocharger, AWD, even the dang hooks in the trunk for the cargo net are made of real metal. Maintenance I'm not worried about because I do that stuff myself but I do honestly worry about if something major croaks out on me, LOL. Anyways...these are just my opinions.

If the study got a good enough sample size per brand I don't see how it wouldn't be more accurate. To me this is a bit like saying that you don't trust the poll numbers for a certain political race because you've talked to your friends and almost none of them are gonna vote for the person the polls are predicting to win.

Youre certainly entitled to your opinion.
Since when is a survey conducted with well over 30,000 car owners about the issues they face with their vehicle an "opinion"?

It wasn't meant as a personal dig, more as a joke about how you don't really see people flocking online to talk about how reliable their cars are. You see that with sporty cars, though.

It just seems odd to me that, despite this thread starting out as a race thread, ~90+% of the back and forth has dealt with reliability. I don't understand the interest, I don't think online communities would be built around people talking about reliability (sounds boring). Not that I'm knocking reliable cars, that's a very important thing for many vehicles to hang their hat on, but its just not an exciting conversation. I made the joke because you reintroduced a study (that last link was the JD Power survey all over again) about reliability that was already being beaten to death.

Nice high school level cliche. And, yeah, that's why it's one of the most highly acclaimed, well-reviewed cars for the past xx years. Because no one wants to drive one.

And how is your taste so different then mine when we both like American muscle & sports cars? For the record, I've owned cars that would beat your GT350 in any kind of a race, but I am open minded enough to appreciate other well-executed, albeit less high-performance vehicles for what they are.

The Accord is an absolute worry-free pleasure to drive when when you aren't in Billy Bad-Ass mode...it's comfy, smooth, well-built, has great standard features, is very roomy, has great visibility, handles well, is great in the snow, gets great MPG, etc etc...all for a very reasonable price.

There's a trade-off with everything. The Accord excels at finding that balance in between.

Unfortunately, you are far too narrow-minded to understand any of this.
The fact of the matter is that NOBODY with any aspirations in life will ever buy a Honda Accord. It's boring, plain, uncomfortable, cheaply built, unreliable, expensive to repair piece of crap vehicle. Perhaps you were too scared to read the article I posted since you just wasted $30K+ on a piece of crap Honda?

You've owned cars that would beat a GT350 in "any kind" of race? LOL really? Why don't you elaborate? You talk a big game, but you can't seem to back it up with any facts.

No Honda is a "pleasure to drive" unless you get the same amount of enjoyment out of driving a vehicle as you do using a washer machine or refrigerator. And it's not "worry free"; Hondas have a hell of a lot of expensive to repair problems that you seem to think will never happen to you. Keep living on hopes and dreams and see how far it gets you. We'll all be here when you fall back to reality

As far as being "great in the snow", that is just comical. No FWD economy sedan is "great in the snow" even with snow tires. If you need to drive in winter weather, you need a real 4x4 vehicle with real tires. Not some pile of crap Honda sedan. If you actually believe the crap you are posting, you are much worse off than anyone thought.

I would take a Honda Accord over the Audi A4. Honda Accord can be had in manual transmission and I feel I could abuse it with impunity. If / when something breaks, parts are relatively cheap.

The Germans have a fair amount of difficulty making cars that pass the IIHS small overlap crash test. $37k + for a 4-banger is a lot of money to have a P(oor) rating:
