Having what you want makes you an idiot because you don't like it. Ok, got it. Lower center of gravity is terrible for performance? When did this happen? I live in Florida now, everything is straight lines here to begin with. I like my cars to be stanced with a nice tight wheel fitment, sorry for being an idiot.

Lower center of gravity is one thing, slammed to the point of bottoming out is another. You can't drive a race car every day as much as you want it to look like one. Your apology is accepted, by me at least. I'd get used to the criticism now, I doubt it goes away.

That is one of the dumbest, and most ignorant statements I have heard in a while. You are telling me that since my car is extremely lowered that is it is not well built or performance oriented? lol. I have about 7 grand in to my motor, and 2-3 in suspension in a round about 2700lb car. My mod list is over a page long. It is far from "ruined". It is exactly how I wanted it.

I was merely expressing my opinion. I even closed by said there will be those that don't agree with me and that is perfectly fine. If you like the look, by all means, go for it, i'm not going to stop you. As far as performance gains by going so low, ehh, that's something I am not going to get into. This isn't the place for a debate about performance.

Who said anything about ego? Are you implying that I am not allowed to call someone an idiot because of how something looks? Am I not allowed to disagree? You can't honestly say you've never mumbled under your breath when you've seen a mod you don't agree with, i.e. riced out civic.


This is the interwebs people, take nothing seriously. We all have varying opinions on what looks good and what doesn't. I am not expecting everyone to agree with me, just like I am not expecting to agree with everyone else. People have said stated they liked this look, great, good for them! It is ruined, though. If you do this because you like the look, do it right - get bags. If you do coil overs to go this low you are simply a moron and I hope you crack an oil pan every week. Pulling into anywhere would be embarrassing when you inevitably scrape on nothing - no, those people aren't looking at your car because they think it's cool, they're laughing at the hideous noises it makes as you drag your bumper, rockers, and anything else on a 3" curb.

If it is a dedicated road track car that will never see anything but the smoothest tracks ever, great, go for it! Odds are it isn't, though.

May as well put a giant Fig Newtons sticker on the windshield.

that was my daily setup....and then every month id raise it, get a new alignment(guy hated me...did over 30 alignments....he offered unlimited alignments for $140), autocross, then dump it again and get another alignment. fun stuff but i can't justify slamming the mustang

One of my previous daily drivers, wanted more low but the Koni coils were already maxed out It was pretty easy to drive, most speed bumps were easy to navigate as long as you went slow. I only dented the oil pan once, which was completely my fault as I was driving in the snow slush on my summer tires and slid past my turn and high centered on a curb. I have met guys at car shows who were much lower then me and daily drove their cars. Coming from the VW community the Mustangs with only an 1" drop seem like 4x4s to me ;)





Heres my old '13 GT on H&R Super Sports, would have been much lower if I went with coils instead of springs



I dont track my cars so form over function works for me. I just want a nice set of coils that will eliminate wheel gap completely and allow me to give a nice mean rake to my cars stance.

I like my cars pretty damn low but not on the ground. Problem is, center of gravity isnt the only factor. Most of my cars are pretty high power, and when I try to put them too low (as low as I like them visually), they simply cannot put the power to the ground. I can deal with the required driving technique to avoid bottoming out, I can deal with the insane bumpsteer. But I cannot deal with not being able to make use of the high power I invested tons of cash into creating.

The suspension geometry of an independent suspension truly does have intended operating ranges. When you set your baseline control arm angles way out of spec (from slamming the car), it doesnt matter how you statically align your car, the dynamic alignment under compression is compounded several times over and the tires just are not holding a performance alignment during aggressive maneuvers. You just cant argue that.

Improved center of gravity, sure ya. But your suspension system is operating out of range. If you can get drop spindles, that helps a LOT for lowering the car without screwing your geometry... but they are unfortunately not available for a wide range of platforms. I have always preached that its a million bucks waiting to be made by a company that starts making quality aluminum drop spindles for a wide range of cars. People would catch on quickly how much better of a method for lowering your car it is. If you are able to raise your suspension member higher up to the chassis, this is also a great way to bring your control arm angles closer to proper range after lowering. But this usually requires cutting and welding.
