Ugh, another "solution" in search of a problem. Please tell me this can be permanently disabled (something that only has to be switched off once). Never driven a car with this and it seems like it would be irritating.
I never turned that feature on. I don't know if it's irritating or not. It's certainly something that isn't necessary.

Only old people don't like hill assist.
Could be true. I'm 47, but it's funny how it no longer seems that old once you get there. ;) I learned to drive in a 70 super beetle and my dad taught me how to use the hand brake "manual hill assist". It's not hard.

I guess at 35 I'm "old" in some circles. When I was 15, the first week of learning to use the clutch I might have wanted it. If it were absolutely seamless in nearly all situations I might be ok with it now, but I doubt that will be the case (traction control and ABS come to mind, and cars/trucks should have a simple off switch for both).
I think ABS is good, but I would love to see air bags become optional.

Yeah...there should be an off switch for ABS...because you can stop faster without it and you love flat spots?

I think it's funny to see people downing technogy features because they prefer some more "basic" way of driving. Everyone puff out your chests and repeat after me "we don't need none of this new fangled crap!"
Ehh, I don't think it's hard to use the hand brake. It's just like driving a manual transmission to me. Every shift is a little different and you never achieve perfection, but getting good at something that isn't that easy is a fun thing in my opinion. I probably will never try out the automatic collision avoidance features when I buy a car with them either. I just have fun my own way. It doesn't mean I'm better than you, I just like what I like.

The hill assist felt different depending on how much force I used on the brake.
The disengagement point changed. I tried it about 6 or so times.
The E brake worked better for me until I got used to the stick.
Interesting to hear.

Hill start assist is on the GT350 and it can be disabled in the menu. I made sure to check for you when I sat in the car for my familiarization time at Sebring.

Just sounds like something else to go wrong. Do you ever use it?
Yeah, I like it alot. It rarely engages over here in AZ (but I lived in the SF Bay until recently) but when it does the hill is steep enough to warrant it. I've never had it behave badly. I don't think there's any additional parts required for it, it probably uses the accelerometer included for the track apps and the ABS to control brake actuation. I'm guessing there though.

Thank you so much! I truly appreciate you thinking of these forums and taking the time to reply to my question. Have a great evening!

The car has hill assist and it's very useful. I enjoy it when I get stopped at the light on a overpass. All it does is stop the car rein rolling back for 4-5 seconds so you can engage the clutch easily

It's a great feature if you live in hill country which I do. It holds the brake and won't let go till you have enough throttle to roll forward. I've noticed that it will require you to apply more throttle the steeper the incline. Awesome feature.

Well, I've been driving a manual for over 30 years. Never needed it, and am not interested in it. To each his or her own.

I never thought I'd like hill assist until I took my car to San Francisco. It's a god damn life saver in that city. Everywhere else? I guess it's nice to have but in San Francisco, I'd be screwed without it.

Me crazy, and I can't help myself
I look at hill assist like auto blip, sure you don't need it, you can do it yourself, but if it makes life easier whats the downside? I have had enough situations where some jerk in the car behind me is right up my ass when I'm parked on a hill, when i'm in my winter beater i don't care but if i was in the GT350 would be happy to have the assist.

As stated the GT350 has it. For me it's not much of a thing as the city where I do the bulk of my driving is pretty flat. If I lived in SF or other areas where hills are the rule rather than the exception, I have no doubt I would love this feature.

Does it add weight / Reduce performance / effect your control of the vehicle at speed?

Then is it really a problem?
