Haha. I'm glad you said it :-)

I only said it because I'm old...well, oldish. I drove a GT4 recently and was surprised to realize that it had it. It was neat. I wouldn't disable it but it doesn't make much difference to me either way. I wouldn't pay extra for it.

I don't know what it is like. I just know the gf loves. My point though is if her GT has it, the Shelby has to have it, but I'm finding out that's not the case as it seems less thrilling on the inside of the 350 even with the tech package.

Only old people don't like hill assist.
I guess at 35 I'm "old" in some circles. When I was 15, the first week of learning to use the clutch I might have wanted it. If it were absolutely seamless in nearly all situations I might be ok with it now, but I doubt that will be the case (traction control and ABS come to mind, and cars/trucks should have a simple off switch for both).

Yeah...there should be an off switch for ABS...because you can stop faster without it and you love flat spots?

I think it's funny to see people downing technogy features because they prefer some more "basic" way of driving. Everyone puff out your chests and repeat after me "we don't need none of this new fangled crap!"

It's not irritating at all, and if you ever drive in a city like San Francisco, it's life-changing... okay, perhaps just clutch-saving.

It can be disabled through the driver assists menu and I'm pretty sure the setting is sticky though I've never turned it off.
Even auto trans need "hill assist" in SF :thumbsup:

It's not this - it doesn't help at all, it makes it less predictable and actually worse - waiting for a brake release while you should be already moving. If you have some minimum manual transmission driving skill, I don't see how this is helpful. Beginners - totally agree, probably should use it for the shake sake of people behind them.

Apparently you've never tried to stop on a gravel road with ABS. It's borderline hazardous depending on conditions. It's a great safety feature on pavement, and I like it. Has nothing to do with "puffed chests".

ABS isn't just because people can't drive and it's not only for safety. Modern ABS is very desirable in most race cars by many racers. Some classes make it illegal - opponents will claim that it's for people who cant drive but the reality in most cases is that the class is on a budget and everyone knows it increases performance but not everyone wants to spend the money to upgrade - so they argue every which way.

Once you learn to drive stick - using the clutch to suspend yourself on an incline, while a necessary skill, IMO - becomes somewhat of a novelty. I don't think hill assist makes taking off on an incline less predictable - at least not the one in the GT4 I drove (that's the only car that I've noticed it in so the only one I have experience with). It never waited to release - it just holds it for about 2 seconds but the second I released the clutch, it disengaged automatically. I admit, it was a strange sensation and I wasn't sure I liked it at first because it just felt so different - but I forced myself to try it a few times and it became automatic for me.

You might be right there. I have very little experience going fast enough on a gravel road to worry about ABS.


Just so you guys know - I'm just goofing around. I think we can all agree that if we don't want any option, that we should just be able to turn it off, because 'Merica! :)

I agree, ABS is fine in most situations.
People shouldn't use ABS as a crutch. Learn proper braking technique.
Ive had a bad rotor before and even with ABS the car would try to steer sideways. Pump braking/modulation would control it.
ABS has nearly killed me off road on a steep down hill.
So, the truck question?

The hill assist felt different depending on how much force I used on the brake.
The disengagement point changed. I tried it about 6 or so times.
The E brake worked better for me until I got used to the stick.
