American muscle has to be V8. It's not a question of performance... The sound is half the equation. If you want fast and sporty with a 6 or 4 cyl, go with a European or Asian car, or a Focus RS/ Neon SRT4, etc.
hey everybody, don't tell this guy how the overwhelming majority of mustangs in existence are not V8 cars or it'll prolly ruin his day.

Buy what you want; it doesn't matter to me! 18 PP EB here w/ MT. I just plain don't have V8 envy. I still remember my drive home from the dealer after purchase, and I can honestly say my car has improved over time, as I've slowly added the mods I've wanted. Anyone who knows better might or should be able to ID it as a non-V8 car without lifting the hood, and I'm well aware the sound is a give-away to those who know. In my mind, it's a pretty damn sharp-looking, fun-to-drive car that i still can't completely (i.e. legally) enjoy on public roads.

If you're the type of person that's prone to regret, and you think you might regret not having a V8, buy the GT. Just remember that you're buying a car for you, not for us randos on a forum or on the street. My EB meets or exceeds all my goals, but I'm never going to try to convince anyone it'll meet theirs, nor would I assume that a V8 is for everyone, either. Whatever you decide, enjoy!

PS - I've always been a fan of the underdog, so take that for what it's worth!

Sounds like the perfect candidate for a electric car.
Tesla model 3 performance is the best affordable daily on the market.

I guess for most people you might be correct. But I still prefer listening to my V8 everyday. Although I know the day will come where I will be in a electric daily driver.

LOL!!!!

No. There's tons of other cars, including a Mustang, that are better affordable dailies.

I work with a guy who has an EB HPP HP. It is a really nice looking car. When we first learned that we bought at mustangs he spent about three minutes, completely unsolicited, explaining to me why he chose EB over the V8. It all had to do with not needing that much power.

We usually park next to each other and every time we are leaving work at the same time, he always looks at my car as I start it up.

I have to agree with the others that the sound of the coyote just provides a feeling. Drive under an overpass and get it into the upper band of RPMs. It sounds like all hell is being unleashed on the road. It is incredible. Combine that sound and power with some suspension upgrades you have a fun, cost effective car.

Sorry but he is right.
about those millions of pony cars not existing?

I have a 4v cobra. I get the sound thing. Its legit. when i rip it you can hear it blocks away and i get compliments constantly. that said, ten grand is a massive jump. I did some digging and the hpp cars aren't that far off from their GT counterparts so the weight thing might not be as big a deal as I thought.

You just hit the nail on the head. He explained for three unsolicited minutes why he got the ecoboost. That’s because even if that’s the car he wanted, he’s always gonna really want the V8. He wasn’t trying to convince you, he was trying to convince himself.

Its easy to say he's trying to convince himself but I gotta disagree. Momentary "maybe i shoulda got the bigger motor" probably disappears with the smile that comes with him enjoying what he has. When you're unable to lap a track as quickly as him despite having more power perhaps you'd have the same thought.

the hpp makes sense. the GT makes a glorious noise.

Yeah, you’re right. Everyone with a V8 always gets smoked by 4 cylinders at the track. That’s why they race EcoBoosts instead of GT350s. How stupid do I feel…

Your strawman fallacy begs the question: Why you talkin bout GT350's?

I'm in the camp that a muscle car has to be a V8 (with my only exception being the old Grand Nationals). I grew up with several Fox bodies and I remember the stigma of those who got the 4cyl. It just wasn't a Mustang TO ME -- it was to appeal to the people who wanted to look like they drove a muscle car when they didn't (and they sold volume).

There is something about driving a V8 Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, etc. that is unrefined, raw, visceral, aggressive, dangerous, etc. It's the heaviness of the car, the way the torque picks up the front end when you tap the gas at mid-rpm. It's just the way it drives -- like a sedan with too much horsepower and too much torque. The S550 is a little less torque'y due to the drive-by-wire throttle but it's still an experience. The way the car is trying to kill you if you're not careful. That's the fun of a muscle car.

In MY PERSONAL PREFERENCE, If I wasn't going to get into a V8 Mustang, I would select a more nimble 4/6 cyl car that is meant to be more refined etc. like a European sports car etc. The Mustang really isn't the best "sports" car platform. It's big, long, heavy. It works as a muscle car -- that is the definition.. but sports car there are better options if you're looking for that with a smaller engine.

I have to agree with the others that the sound of the coyote just provides a feeling. Active Exhaust in Track mode, top down on a summer night on a backroad with a lush tree canopy all around, drop to 2nd and slide into WOT and I have an experience that is just all American muscle. The barking of the exhaust, the screaming of the V8, the trees flying by with the exhaust echoing off all the leaves... it's the complete package FOR ME. That's the Mustang experience.
