I'd love to know your game plan for the doors. I'm kicking around a few ideas but after seeing the attention to detail on the sub enclosure alone I'm willing to take your input as gospel :)

Curious how you're going to use the JL fix82 unit since it only has high level inputs and OEMradio's mod is low level output?

I'd go Arc Audio XD next time. Similar footprint, better IMHO.

The Hertz amps are much the same components (PCB, especially) as far cheaper Soundstream, PPI, etc. amps. It has unique components, of course, but... for a shared platform it's quite expensive. My shop doesn't recommend them often and we generally have someone put in JL amps instead if they're wanting to spend money.
This. I'm using and older Arc XXD2080, tiny little thing powering an old Alumapro but it punches well about it's weight with my passive radiator setup.

What I'm surprised with is the lack of use of passive radiators in automotive builds. They've been used for years with great success in home audio and I built my own little setup in my car, it hits quite hard and clean for being quite underpowered.

The specs on the fix82 say the input range is 250mv to 30v, so it can handle pretty much anything from the looks of it.

Any chance your tech wants to make enclosures and sell them?? I'd be down for that. And build is coming along nicely - its refreshing to see someone doing it the right way vs hacking their way through a new car. Its obvious you and your techs know what you're doing

The mod he is doing is programming out all the factory equalization and time alignment. He isn't converting it to a low level signal.

They are all wood glued and then he will be coating the inside of the enclosure with fiberglass resin to add another layer of strength.

subbed. did you get the deadener from eBay?
No! I own a mobile electronics shop and one of our suppliers is providing the sound deadening material. I don't want to start a big argument here but you should try giving your local retailer the chance to sell you your products before going to ebay or amazon. A smart retailer will get as close as he can to internet pricing in most cases. When it comes to electronics though, keep in mind most manufactures will not warranty it if you buy off of ebay or amazon. Read the fine print on ebay listings when it comes to warranties. Internet resellers are cheaper for a reason. There is no service to back up the product if needed. I'll get off my soap box now.

It might be a possibility for us to build this same basic enclosure and then you build off of it. Keep in mind that this is very time consuming work which means labor dollars. It will however sound better than any store or internet enclosure. This thing feels as solid as cement. The rest of the enclosure will be built out of Baltic birch which is another very dense wood.

Yes.. but technically it already is a low level output.. :)

Technically a line driver is just that, increases voltage from input to output -analog to analog. There is no "line driving" of an optical signal, which is digital. Thus, you are using the FIX to convert analogue to digital, not as a line driver.

Other topic: I do not know whether the FIX will do this or not, but every car audio processor I've dealt with (likely due only to the software) will not flatten low-level input unless you pipe that through the high-level inputs on the processor (vs. using RCAs). This is ultra annoying with many cars because if they have Bose or some other upper-end system, you can often convert the signal wires from the radio pre-amplifier (which are often low level) to RCAs and then input that directly into an amplifier but it is not the case in all cases, it seems, that the signal coming from the radio is flat/unprocessed. It is flat/unprocessed in a Chevrolet Volt and the processing/time alignment happens in the Bose amplifier, not in the radio. That was such an easy car to do a stereo in as a result! But in some cars, you can get a low level but that low level carries the processing in it and you need the processor you use to de-process it but can't because they only do it with high-level inputs, assuming you are going to connect post-amplified via high-level speaker wire taps to the processor. Total software fail.

Before you commit, hopefully they've contacted JL Audio to confirm it will process the input of a low-level signal as it would a high-level signal. Again, only software really could be the issue as the hardware in any processor will do it. Just don't know what JL had in mind when they designed the thing.
