Hi All, I picked up my 2020 Heritage last Tuesday 4/28 from a dealer about 8 hours away from home. When I arrived at the dealer and went back to look at the car I immediately saw the drivers side side decal had a chip in it and bubbles in it along the fender and the door. The dealer somehow did not see that prior to me picking them car up.

I asked that a replacement decal be ordered ASAP. It took them till the following Monday 5/4 to even ID the part number and order the decal which is tagged as out of stock.

I have the car sitting at the ppf shop waiting to get xpel put on the car to protect the awesome wimbeldon white paint, but before it can be applied I need to fix the decal issue or hold off on getting the ppf on the drivers fender and door.

The dealer has no ETA, they just said they ordered the part and there is nothing they can do until they hear from Ford. I consider this pretty close to the dealer selling me a defective car as they didn't see the issue in the start and because I want to take care of the paint, I don't want to drive the car until the ppf is applied.

Does anyone know if this is truly a situation where an ETA for the part delivery cannot be obtained by escalating? This is just a decal, albeit for a set of special specific cars.

The part number is: LR3Z6320001AE

Any advice or information would be appreciated as I need to make a decision on whether or not to just wrap the parts of the car that can be wrapped and incur an extra expense by having to go back when the decal is finally available, or see if there is a way to expedite the creation/shipment of the decal.

Thanks,
Jeff

May check with your wrapper, mine did stripes separately. Also bear in mind Ford is still not back to work except a limited crew making respirators.

Talked to ppf place and it sounds like because the decal is so low on the fender don't recommend having the seams there and a very small strip below, which i understand.

However, he did say we could just wrap the whole thing and he would rewrap the fender and door at materials cost only when the decal comes. Does anyone have any insight into if ford or the dealer would pay for this? Would be a couple hundred dollars as I understand from talking to him (getting exact quote tomorrow morning).

Hard to imagine your dealership or Ford picking up this additional cost if you are not willing to wait for the lower stripes to arrive but obviously that is a question for your dealership and something that you should clarify with them right up front and who knows maybe they will come through for you.

As far as expediting these lower body stripes that is something that would be hard to imagine during these difficult and strange times but never say never.

Pull the damaged stripes off. Have your guy do his PPF work. When the replacements arrive, just apply over the PPF.

bad idea. stripes over ppf would not hold for a long. especially when washing the car with power washer. been there done that.

Wrong, it will hold. The best PPF installers won’t put PPF on top of stripes because of the ugly air line and ruining the stripes if you were to ever remove the PPF. The best give you two choices, PPF around the stripes or pull them and reapply on top of the PPF. If bird shit and bugs can stick to PPF I guarantee the adhesive on the stripes will stick no problem. And who uses a pressure washer on a car with stripes and PPF? What were you expecting to happen? This isn’t rocket surgery. Even Ford tells you in the manual to not use a pressure washer.

Like I said. I had my stripes on PPF not for long. I'm referring from my experience.

I agree with Evil_E. Apply stipe over PPF when it becomes available. Maybe ask the dealer to buy you an entire set of OTT and Side Stripe, get your entire car wrapped and then apply the stripes over the PPF.

ALl of the high end cars I've seen with PPF applied have the stripes removed, PPF applied, and then the stripes reapplied. At that point they put on the ceramic coating. If you put on the ppf , then ceramic coat, and then try to re-stripe it won't adhere properly.

i was at the dealership last week can tell you that the only stipe kit that is available is the rear deck lid kit and am not sure that is still available. Every other stripe kit for the HE is on back order with no eta.

I would have declined taking receipt of the vehicle... stripe damage and damage to paint upon taking delivery?

Did you see the car before signing any paperwork for it, or was it a “ordered, delivered and take it” type of sale?

There was no paint damage. The stripe has bubbles behind it and a small piece missing. Car was there, however I flew to pick the car up and had to drive 8 hours home the same day. Had it been local I would agree with you. The dealer somehow didn’t notice the issue yet it was the first thing I saw walking up to the car.

looking like I will just ppf the car and have to redo the door and fender when the new decal is available.
