This thread saved me much stress, while installing lowering springs and new shocks had right front subframe bolt bottom out 1/2" from bracket due to threads getting jammed up. Ordered taps from eBay and problem solved.

Damn.... I just did the BMR kit this weekend and the whole job only took 2 hours - but almost a full hour of that was trying to get the left front bolt back in without cross-threading it. Only worked it by hand so I could feel instantly when it would start to bind, but it was super frustrating. I do feel a little better knowing that it's not something *I* specifically f'ed up tho.

Those that used the harbor fright tap kit. What size socket did you use on the end of the tap? I tried a 9 mm amd it just spun once the tap hit.

Not a HF tool guy, but the tap tools are all the same. Trying to use a 6 point socket you will need an 8 point 7/8 mm.

Or buy this

Just to reinforce what has been previously said. Start each bolt by hand and leave them all loose until all of the bolts are started. If one won't start, use a lineup pry bar and get the two bolt holes to line up. You should be able to then hand start the stubborn one.

I’ve had the subframe apart a few times. For some reason one bolt only would thread by hand about 1/4 of the way. Very strange. I tapped it a bit to where the bolt went half way. Then sent it with the impact. Took bolt back out to be sure and it threads fine now. Very strange.

Before reassembly starts check bolt too thread engagement. Even mark the location it came out of, could work in ones favor. Think ahead.

If it's known that the driver side is the bad actor, that would be the one to start first.

That said when installing a bolt set and one. Wherever in the pattern binds hand tightening .

First step for me will be to remove the others and begin there, start over.

Force fitting parts last choice.

Food for thought (FOT)

It worked perfectly. Was a little worried but the bolt torqued down fine. That was a show trying to torque those bolts from under the car with my little 18" torque wrench(also from Harbor Freight) lol. What a day. I did the rear lower, Steeda IRS support frame, Vertical link, Subframe support bushing kit, and alignment kit. Only got the drivers side done because it was fighting me the whole way.

Again, big Thanks to GilSilcox. Your timing was spot on today.
Word to the wise...Do NOT trust Harbor freight torque wrenches.
