So after your recommendation and calling the company, I ordered a set of them. I should have the time to throw them on tonight but already you can tell that they look to be much sturdier and more well insulated. I'm really curious to see if they will make a noticeable difference.I have thermal zero blankets and they are so much better than what off brand hellion gives. They are made in Ohio and are $150 a piece for the lava blankets like I have. The blankets keep so much heat in it’s great! Can lay your hand on them even after driving for an hour in traffic. No need to wrap the factory manifolds.
You should for sure. It will be tight on the drivers side turbo but they will fit as long as you got the universal T-3’s. Report back after you test them.So after your recommendation and calling the company, I ordered a set of them. Did you just use the provided wire and wrap it tight or did you go similar to Hellion ones and use small springs to bind them? You should for sure. It will be tight on the drivers side turbo but they will fit as long as you got the universal T-3’s. Report back after you test them.
Just used the wire they supply but you won’t need any on the drivers side that’s for sure. I only used wire on the x pipe side of the passenger turbo.Did you just use the provided wire and wrap it tight or did you go similar to Hellion ones and use small springs to bind them?
So with a little finesse I got the passenger side on fairly easily. The driver's side, it seems physically impossible to do this without the blanket sitting directly in the fan blades. How did you resolve that?Just used the wire they supply but you won’t need any on the drivers side that’s for sure. I only used wire on the x pipe side of the passenger turbo.
Remove the two radiator holders on each top side and you’ll be able to pull back the radiator and slide in the blanketSo with a little finesse I got the passenger side on fairly easily. Okay. I'll see if that helps. I tried to get my hands in and work it into there. My actual concern though is just the sheer bulk of these blankets. I can't see how it fits without the blades constantly going across it. I tried to press it against the turbo and even then, the blades on the driver's side run directly across the blanket.Remove the two radiator holders on each top side and you’ll be able to pull back the radiator and slide in the blanket
My blanket does not hit the blades or even close.Okay. I'll see if that helps. I tried to get my hands in and work it into there. My actual concern though is just the sheer bulk of these blankets. Hmmm, with these it's literally right in there. The passenger side is fine but my fan on the driver's side sits directly in front of the turbo. It's pretty much impossible not to hit it. I wonder if Hellion revised the fan shroud by chance. You can see on the old (smaller) blanket where it was rubbing too.My blanket does not hit the blades or even close.
It rests on the fan shroud yeah but my fan blades do not hit or ever have.Hmmm, with these it's literally right in there. So here's a dilemma: I left the passenger side on from Thermal Zero and the driver's side one Hellion/BeefCake. There is a noticeable difference between the two. I drove it to the gym last night and popped the hood afterward to see if it was noticeable. Both myself and a buddy could feel the difference. About an hour and a half later I drove home, this time, making a couple of WOT hits. You could definitely tell the difference in the heat between the two. Even after popping the hood and letting it cool down for about a half or so, the Thermal Zero was still noticeably cooler. Post a pic. Maybe that will jog some community brain cells. So here's a dilemma: I left the passenger side on from Thermal Zero and the driver's side one Hellion/BeefCake. After all of this, I am determined to find a way to make that driver's side Thermal Zero one fit. I've been trying any combination of how to put the blanket it on but it just doesn't seem to physically fit. The Hellion one goes on no problem, no hiccup at all.
