I'll take the other side of the argument, why do you feel it necessary to take the lemon buyback? I could see feeling trepidation if it was a persistent problem like a reoccurring transmission issue but these problems look to be solidly root-caused. The pin pushback is a common gremlin style problem that is hard to find but was found. The sensor and the brake booster seem to have been resolved. In the end, you just had bad luck and that is no indication of future performance. As frustrated as you are with the downtime, Ford won't give you any more than they absolutely need to. The S550 M1 is probably one of the greatest examples of a Mustang made in a long time so I'd just accept that it is probably fine now and keep it.

From my experience, Im guessing it would cost the dealer or Ford less money to offer an extended warranty versus a full buy back. Dealers cost on warranties are around half or less than what they sell them for so a cheap solution on their end.
Correct, without a doubt.

An appeal to logic might work but I just think it’d be difficult to “make” the dealer do anything he didn’t want to.

Im talking about serious turning, i do heavy turns on highway onramps and stuff at high speed too, but its not exactly something that a gt cant do, and a mach1 can was my point, both will be enough to be happy with for street stuff
You do realize you’re never gonna get anywhere if you keep making sense like this, right?🤣

I guess everything changes the minute you hit the track but for street antics, even pushing pretty hard, my GTs exhibit a little more body lean than my Mach 1s. That’s about it. It’s easy to get caught up in how special the Mach 1 is (and it sure is) but forget that the GT is a very capable street car as well!

There's no guarantee a new or new to you car will be any better.

My car has also been in the shop many times, for several weeks on at least three occasions for the 10R80 and bubbling dash.

Just think of it as a temperamental exotic like Ferraris of yester year haha.

I choose to just roll with it, though I would order a new HPP vert with the Magnaride I really wanted on the HPP vert that's wasn't avail, if it wasn't for the dash design.

Car inventories are building, heavy discounts and subsidized interest is building. Patience will be rewarded.

Wait a year and you'll be able to get into a new one with $6-8K discount and .09 finance or lease in all likelihood. You will be able to get massive discounts on '24 very soon if using finance other than Ford.
I'm curious as to what 10R80 issues you were having.

Lots of insightful info here!!! You guys are right about the "you accept the loss" any time you are looking at trading out to something else. Including the cost of the car I've probably got 6 figures Canadian into this car (so about $72.00 USD) and am looking to take a 40% loss.

HOWEVER, for the last 2 years I have had a huge amount of enjoyment driving this thing around and getting hat tips from other grey beards like myself!!!

To the OP; you do indeed have some hard decisions to make. Just like myself!

CDF defect that Ford tried 5 software packages, two valve body overhauls, a partial rebuild and finally a new / recon that still doesn't shift from P to R in less than 4 seconds. I will make a warranty claim again then get a trans tune if not solved.

Like others have said keep it. Get the trans tuned and see if it helps. Both my broncos took forever to shift into gear or from reverse to drive that it felt unsafe AF. Plus all the other issues I had with those POS. Different trans, but same shit ford logic.
Or pay up getting into a new one. I wouldn't buy a 24 as its the first year and has already had some decent issues. And I hate the hyundai interior. I looked at one prior to my 22. I noped out almost as soon as I sat in it. If I was you, I'd rather get another M1 used if I was dead set on getting rid of the current one. A low mileage M1 is 49-55K and the dark horse is 70K+ Hell a new 24GT optioned out with similar things as the M1 is 63K+. For that money you might as well get a used Z06 or GT500

I had to take the Lemon Law route on a '06 F250 with a 6.0 diesel. I was towing a 24' enclosed trailer to track events. It keep blowing EGR valves all over the country. Get stuck, order part & wait to get on the road. The variable vane turbo engineers forgot about diesels have Soot in the exhaust. The soot builds up & causes over boost & pops the EGR valve. I had it replaced 29 times in 6 months. The Ford Rep I meet just asked me if I wanted the same truck, trim, options & a different engine? I told him Yes now what. He said they would order me a '08 with a new 6.4 diesel with two turbos no charge. They took my truck & gave me a '07 F250 with a V10 as a loaner till the new truck got here. I got the '08 in January & still have it. I say Keep the Mach 1 & late model Mustangs are very electronically complicated just live with it. I have an '08 Bullitt that has only 16,000 mikes on it. At 2,500 miles the rear end had a howl. The axle tube on the right side was nor machined at a 90 degrees to the carrier. The dealership knew me well & order the complete rear end all mounting hardware gave it to me & I installed it cuz they knew how picky I am.

If you want a new car take the buyback, otherwise don't because you'll be going from a known quantity to a new car with its own set of issues.

An M2 is a great car, the DSG is superb.

So over the last few years with my M1, ive had various issues. Things like a break booster needing to be replaced, to suspension/control arms/and even a sensor switch disabling my hill start assist and collision assist. Enough time was spent at the dealership service centers (over 45 days in total) for Ford via the BBB to approve a buyback under the lemon law.

The dilemma Im having, is if I take the buyback, i cant even really get anything equivalent for a few reasons, id have to go used for a M1, GT350s/Dark Horse are out of my price range now due to the insanity of interest rates, and just a base 2024 GT doesn't really appeal to me. I've always driven mustangs, since i first bought my 05 V6 as my first car purchased by myself. I find it insane that interest rates alone, are pricing me out of owning what would be an equivalent price of a car but that just happens to be the world we live in.

Has anyone here done a real comparison between our M1s and a 2024 GT? I honestly dont even know how the laws work, but isnt an MSRP swap a possibility generally? Does that mean Ford or a dealer has to be willing to sell me something else AKA a dark horse at MSRP?

What would you all want to do in this sitaution?

So I would definitely look into the lemon laws for your state.
Terlingua17 said the his buyback experience in Texas was very different from mine in California about 3 years ago. That dealership could have been doing him a solid or it may be Texas law for them to facilitate a comparable exchange. Don't know about New Mexico but California, where my buyback was, did not require the manufacturer to do that. Basically they just had to buy the car back buy paying off the loan and refunding all the money I had paid down and made in payments. In my case corporate handled the buyback and the dealer had no responsibility other than verifying the issues, storage of said vehicle, and providing rental during the process. They said if I wanted the car replaced I could petition a dealership to do so but they could not force them and they could decline, which multiple did. So then after that I would have to negotiate a new deal for whatever vehicle I wanted. Basically whole new transaction with zero assistance from corporate. This was during summer of 2022 so nobody was willing to come even close to what I paid for the car in December of 2021 as the prices had jumped significantly for the same car. So moral of the story is see what the laws in your area say. You can even ask a lemon law attorney as they normally only charge the manufacturer if they win, but also only take slam dunk cases.
