Good thread and lots of good info. Planning on tracking my MT82 car this summer for the first time and possibly ading boost near the end of summer. Sounds like I better plan on the axels and clutch/tranny not putting up with it long on drag radials. Curious, Whats the benefits of the bias ply radials over the standard radials such as the MT Street SS tire?

bias ply sidewalls wrinkle on launch absorbing the hit and then unload. DR's have very little give in the sidewall and are much harder on the diveline (clutch, trans, driveshaft, diff, axles).

Drag radials and a manual is like oil and water! A bias ply takes all the shock. Even launching at over 5k it's less violent than wheel hopping with a radial. Bias ply will have zero wheel hop even on stock suspension.

Do you think that’s also true wtih 26” x 17” bias ply, with the shorter sidewall? I am debating on 26” with my stock gears, or doing gears and going to 28”, a more expensive proposal.

Which are the best ones for me to run with 3:73’s?

I wouldn’t be stressed about the lesser sidewall of the 26”.

I like my 28x10-17 Hoosiers but I think my next set I'll try the Mickey Thompson ET street r bias ply 28Ă—11.5-17. Either way you'll want 28 inch tall tire to give you more top end.

A 26 inch bias ply would be better than a drag radial but due to less side wall it will not wrinkle as much as a 28 bias ply. I wouldn't change your gears they would be perfect with a supercharger and a 28 in slick!

Not going supercharger. Just want to try and maximize potential at stock power. Eventually I plan on building a dedicated drag car, but not there yet.

Then you might want to go with a 26 bias slick. Along with your rear end having taller gears your newer tranny does as well. Basically you want to figure out what combo is going to let you utilize the most of 4th gear without having to shift into 5th.

Yeah, 26” is the right size for 3.31 gears. I currently have 245/45/17 Hoosier DRs, but want to move to a bias ply setup.

Not trying to thread jack here, but on the MT Bias R tires will a 17" wheel clear the rear brakes of a PP1 car? I assume they should since im not sure the rear brakes are any different. Anyone have any suggestions on nice wheels to run the 17s on? I'm thinking hard about going this route now over the MT SS Radial.

What kind of times are you running with them?

I have race stars with 28Ă—10-17 Hoosiers on the rear and 28x4.5-18 m&h front runners up front.

I only got 2 outings with them.

1 outing at a local 1/8 strip. With no warm up, 20 psi, I got 1.9 60’ amd 8.3 1/8 mile, 3 runs about the same

The one time I got a chance to go to a full 1/4 mile, had horrible launching issues, 2.2-2.3 60’ !!! Not my proudest moment. Trap speed was 111 mph, so car is making decent power, if I can just learn to launch it or get bias-plys!
