I know there are several different answers depending on tire, transmission, etc. but I'm wondering specifically for automatics on street tires without high stall converters.

My dad and I want do some 1/4 mile runes and are wondering what are the limits are for stock half shafts. He's running P Zero all seasons (275's on rear) with just a JLT + Lund + E85, and I'm running Continental DW's (285's on rear) with JLT + Lund + E85 + Catless LT's.

I think we're fine, as you can't really launch the autos with a stock converter, but I'd hate to break something on a daily driver that gets us to work. I've heard leave it at idle and punch it on the 2nd light, we should be good right?

If you can avoid wheel hop, should be fine. Wheel hop will break a stock shaft as quick as the blink of an eye

You need much much more power, and much more tire to even think about half shafts. Especially with an auto.

This is stock power with 1400 miles on the clock, using launch control at 3500 rpm. I do have a manual though.

If you're auto then you're fine. I made 30+ passes on a TVS blower setup at 650'ish and another dozen passes at 1000+ on a turbo setup. At your power levels you shouldn't have any issues, let out if you get any wheel hop, which is mostly characteristic of an mt82 car.

 :headbang: Thanks for the info guys! I thought that'd be the case at our power level, on street tires, without high stall converters; I just wanted to make sure :)

ive gone a best of 1.33 on stock halfshafts, that might be a record, not sure but im a mid 9 sec car at the track every weekend and they have held in there....im turning up the boost so i am going to the dss shafts but the stock ones are good with an auto imo....all i have done is lowering springs and the bmr bushing and cradle supports
