Wondering who will be first to offer this wing - perhaps in a fixed variant or, better yet, with the active aero that will allow control of the upper element to dial in downforce as needed.

Picture is courtesy of "Ford Images" website - where you can apparently buy a high-quality print of this artwork.

For track use I would recommend a 1/64 sheet metal screw on the underside.
False! Wood screws offer better aerodynamic properties. Don't forget to strip them as well. More tensile strength that way. If you can't remove them then air sure as hell won't.

This reminds me of how I generally dislike any added wing to a car not originally designed for it...with very few exceptions. At the track = anything goes... on the street = raised eyebrow.

I've witnessed two Miatas in my area with wings of that scale, if not larger.

With respect to this wing, no. Style and trunk access, but more importantly, I'd want to see aero testing, proving the installation would be worthwhile and not detrimental. Then balance that against the cost. It's a horribly practical theme, which is probably why I've never attempted to install such a thing. "What is this gonna do for me?" If I can't answer that in positive, quantifiable way, it doesn't happen.

I think you’ll see some of the race focused companies offer something similar if the track performance is there. Pricing would depend on if it’s fixed vs active but I’d think a fixed wing would be north of CFTP type wing pricing, how much I don’t know. Active would obviously be even more expensive.

And then someone like Speedform will make a $500 version then you’ll see the RICE crowd with them driving on the street. We’ve got plenty of Civic, Infiniti, Toyota and Subaru around here with way bigger wings on them that look absolutely ridiculous and I guarantee most if not all of them are not track cars.

Just to clarify for those who may have missed the Ford introduction, this is the wing from the road-going version of the GT3 Mustang that was recently announced - the Mustang GTD. I'm guessing that the Ford and Multimatic engineers have worked out the aero.

Would you consider putting one on The Mule? @honeybadger would you put this wing on your Shelby build? This wing would really be geared towards you guys and others that have dedicated track cars and are really looking to get the best times possible. And how much downforce will you need in the front to balance it out so you don’t take off like a rocket ship on track?

One of my challenges with the Mule is to retain the school livery and appearance, while at the same time developing it.

So far, the only outward changes to aero that I've done are to swap the "track pack" spoiler for the later "swing," an R splitter, brake cooling intake extensions, and a set of Multimatic GT4 canards (really more for their work as splitters that direct more air into the cooling inlets for the oil and transmission radiator intakes).

I think that before I do any sort of major aero changes, I'd focus on safety upgrades for the interior, maybe add a fuel cell and full fire system, and perhaps swap the the brakes for the AP Racing kit that will allow 18" wheels.

That said, I can't rule out big aero someday - just not until the rest of the car is ready for it.
