Hi everyone...finally joined the club about a month ago when I bought a used 2017 GT350 with around 4800 miles. This is my 6th and favorite mustang. So far I’m loving every minute of it. One of the first things I did when I drove home was change the oil. I sent a sample to Blackstone for the first time and just got the results back. Should I be worried? I’ve never had an analysis done before.
Thanks for any insight.

What makes you feel like you should be worried? I don’t see anything wrong with your analysis, looks clean to me.

You just answered his question and put him at ease. ;-)
OP as well as myself and many others wouldn’t know what we were looking at as far as the actual numbered results.
The brief overview tells it all doesn’t it?

not that anything is wrong but I would suggest an extended warranty. I purchased one mainly to cover things like the A/c system or the electronics.

Judging by the aluminum count and lab comments, one of two things is going on...the remnants of break in, or an engine that is prematurely shaving itself to pieces. I’ve literally never had an oil analysis done, so I was hoping other owners could share their experiences at similar mileage.

Yes. Blackstone makes this easy. If the values in the overview are off you need to start focusing on the other parameters and values to gain insight to a potential issue such as bearing wear for example.

I saw that too but it didn’t sound alarming from the way it was described.

Put your mind at ease and do this. Use your search button and type in "Blackstone". You will find lots of Blackstone reports posted on this website.

What if things don’t look good and show potential catastrophic problems waiting to happen. What can we do about it “now”?
I’m thinking an oil analysis given to Ford won’t get you very far as far as warranty goes. They’ll wait for the failure and you’ll be on pins and needles afraid to leave your home town just in case.
Please educate me.

OP, you didn't mention if the oil had been changed by the previous owner. Are you saying you changed the oil after purchase (at 4800mi), and this is the sample report from your 2nd oil change (at 6000mi)?

As a data point, here's a trend of every oil change on my 2018 since new. It sees about 30% track miles.

I wouldn't immediately sound the alarm, but I agree that AL seems a bit high.

Thanks for your report for comparison. I purchased the car from a dealer that just acquired it. I used the last reported oil change from the Carfax, which would put about 2800 miles on the oil I sent in.

If this is the first oil change since new, then the numbers are fine. If it's the third or later, then you should check the air filter for leaks.

Otherwise, looks good.

I believe this is the oil from the second oil change, changed at 3100 miles according to carfax. I would have just done the 3rd.

Okay, then check the air filter. Usually, high aluminum or iron is about grit getting into the engine through the air filter. so make sure it's OEM and that it's properly installed. Then wait for the next change. Nothing is seriously wrong at this point.

Power train warranty is 5 yrs/60K miles. Drive the crap out of it - most "bad" motors (excess oil consumption) will be very apparent by 10K miles. Mine was obvious by 7K. If it goes south, get the motor replaced.
