So the GTD not only lost to both Corvettes, but it did so against cars that cost tens of thousands less and used drivers who weren’t hired pros.

Embarrassed in its own weight class — the GTD was marketed as a track weapon to rival European supercars, but it’s losing to American competitors costing far less.

If Ford wanted the GTD to be the “halo” car, getting beaten by two Corvettes — one nearly $150k cheaper — is a public relations nightmare.
Dont go there. The corvette forum is for all that. Your post sounds very trollish.

So I complimented the GTD, gave kudo's to the Corvette team. And that constitutes being a troll.
Cool story.

Let's put it this way, and instead highlight the fundamental limitation....

A 4300lb front engine 10+ year old basic steel body GT rental car platform with 200+HP less (depending on ZR1 trim), was slower around the most complicated track in the world by 2 seconds than a mid-engine, 1000+ hp sports car weighing 300lb less. It was never a direct competitor, and was never in danger of not selling.

The gap is probably wider with the same driver, but not surprising given the fundamental limitation. Its cool they made a mustang do this.

I'm assuming....that the cost of the GTD is not really amortized or subsidized by other models (or over volume) since none of the special sauce engineering, or fundamental drive train layout is shared with the retail models, unlike the ZR1 but I agree given the cost I've heard this can reach...it doesn't all make sense.

In the end, the real takeaway here is....

....buy a GT Black Series instead.

Makes the GTD more impressive as to it's times at the ring.

Eh, if Chevy's V8 revved to 7500 rpm and made power like the Coyote i'd have bought a Camaro.

And do you seriously think that Ford is sandbagging just a little? Do you really think they didn’t have an inkling as to what Chevrolet was bringing to the table? Are we all really that naive. Farley just said as much. Stay tuned.

My POINT is, i didn't buy my Mustang because of the badge. This isn't necessarily a "Ford forum"

ZR-1X with ADM will be in GTD price territory. Both the ZR-1 and GTD are impressive. To say the Vette spanked the GTD isn’t accurate though. 2-3 seconds difference on the Ring isn’t spanking anyone. Faster is faster, but as Ira said, Ford and Multimatic both have said there’s more in the GTD. Is the Vette going to put up an improved number with a pro driver? Yeah probably.

Given the weight and horsepower disadvantage to the Vette, I’d say the GTD put up the more impressive time. Several folks in the 7G forum a few months back said the ZR1 would get down around 6:30 at the Ring. That seemed to be the thought in some of Vette circles as well. If that was everyone’s expectation, the ZR1 is a disappointment (even though it’s really not and is an excellent vehicle)
