I am thrilled to see someone else thinks Ford should move the battery to the rear of the Mustang. I discussed the movement of the battery to the trunk with a guy who was a Ford mechanic for 35 years and he said he did not understand why Ford put the battery in the engine compartment where there is a lot of engine heat.

They won't get rid of the V8 in the Mustang. The EB V6 may be the top dog as far as factory total horsepower, but they won't get rid of the V8, just like they haven't in the F-150. Too many buyers would defect.
Or Ford could just produce a 3.5L V8 Ecoboost and satisfy both crowds. If it has to be a smaller engine for emissions just make a smaller V-8. By reducing the displacement you can also make it a FPC if you want to. It shouldn't have to be either/or. :frusty:

I hate to sound like a broken record by constantly posting this youtube video, but these Lotus Esprits sound wicked! 3.5L V-8 > 3.5L V-6 all day everyday.

It's already been done by Ford (see Lincoln LS 3.9L V-8). By reducing the displacement you can also make it a FPC too. It shouldn't have to be either/or. :frusty:

A 4.0L FPC TTV8 with DI would be a sick puppy.

I'd prefer a CPC (again, it's the sound......the GT350 is the only FPC V8 that really does it for me.....and Ford had to work hard to make it sound so good).

4.0 litres does appear to be the current favoured capacity. Led, I expect, by the fact China imposes severe taxes on anything bigger. And China is a big market for sports/exotics.

Anyway...once again we're way off topic. It's amusing, but whatever the initial subject is when a "GT500" thread is started....we always wonder off and discuss the same old things (it's not a complaint....I'm as guilty as any :D ).

So, c'mon Ford, throw us another halo-Stang bone with some meat on it, so we can chew it over :ford:

Agree w/the off-topic comment, but I will be the first to say that the exchange of information is facisnating re weight, chassis, proposed engine size (s) . As you have said in the past if the Big Blue Oval would throw us a bone or two it would curtail the de-railing of threads.
Carry on

I hear ya loud n clear, but we see Ferrari and other exotics using this platform abundantly. The CPC would definitely help with lower end torque but if you wanted more of a track hoonigan, that FPC tho...

Beware of Ford... I don't think they developed that FPC design just for 3 model years of use. The current 5.2L FPC configuration may be only purposed to the 350, but that doesn't mean a spine-tingling 4.0L configuration couldn't come out with ecoboost tech and be placed in a Halostang or a GT... or maybe a Pantera!

It also happens that .5L of displacement per cylinder with the right bore/stroke is the most efficient size. But also China.

I would assume it has to do with proper ventilation, and the added cost of running thick battery cables to the engine compartment.

Guilty as charged! With no official info, our imagination is all we got to tide us over. The silence from Ford is deafening!

Don't get me wrong I enjoy the hell outta these threads...I may take a day or two from reading a thread I'm subscribed to because I figure it's basically the same info being discussed over & over. Wrong! I click on GT500 threads or a versus thread and the thread has taken a 180 degree turn - but again I do enjoy

Other people do it, ford could to. The reason I think, more so that they don't is because of trunk space in the non SE/ grocery getters.

At minimum they should put a lithium in the SE editions. Save 15 lbs off the nose

The ZL1 gains ~200 lbs compared to the SS 1LE when equipped with the 10-speed auto. If this unicorn Mustang, if it even exists, does have ~10% more power than the ZL1, it's also going to need appropriate increases in thermal capacity for brakes and cooling. It will also likely need wider tires to handle the power. All three areas in which capacity increases are never light.

There's no way this alleged "GT500" weighs less than 4000 lbs.
Have we gotten to a point where anything under 3,800 lbs is going to be considered a lightweight? I'm speaking of the Mustang, Camaro, and Challenger. I remember the days when guys aimed for a sub - 3,400 lb car. With all the nannies, options, safety equipment, 19/20 inch wheels, cars themselves have gotten bigger overall, it just seems impossible to get a 21st century hotrod below 3,500 lbs. :frusty:
