First time out on the track last Sunday during Taste of Portland Motorsports event at Portland International Raceway. Black flagged after two laps due to 2 decibels above Sunday maximum 103 decibels. Attempted another lap with exhaust set on "Quiet". Black flagged again due to 105 decibels ending the day for this car.

Was in "Track Mode". Does this automatically control exhaust?

My GT500 certainly did not sound as loud as others to the ear. Is this the end to tracking on Sunday? Any other volume related issues with the 2020 GT500 or is this just PIR on a Sunday?

Try to select Track Mode and then select the exhaust mode you want and save the settings as MyMode. Then when you go to the track you just select MyMode.

where do they measure? Short shift and stay out of high rpm on the straights? Other tracks enforce 95 or so regardless of day of week.

Noise Information
  • Except for four events, the track operates with the same noise restrictions as any industrial site in the city in relation to residences.
The maximum decibel level at trackside is 105 dBA, which in theory should translate to no more than 65 dB at the property line of the closest residence to the track.

In other words, except for four events, the track operates with the same noise restrictions as any industrial site in the city in relation to residences. The four varianced events include one event at 110 dB, two at 112 dB and one at 115 dB. At 115 dB trackside: sound levels at the closest residence to PIR should be 70-75 dB. This equals normal traffic noise levels measured for homes along Columbia Boulevard. It is 10 dB higher than basic City Code allows for commercial/industrial noise to a residence

A great majority of event days operate at 90 dBA or less, meaning they aren’t audible at any point in the neighborhood, and if measurable would be 50 dBA or less in the neighborhood.

  • PIR has an online trackside noise monitor (a neighborhood noise monitor is coming soon). This information can be found at www.portlandraceway.com. Click on “About” then “Noise Information”. If you have a noise complaint or concern you can contact the City Of Portland’s Noise Control office, 503-823-7350 ext. 6 or noise @portlandoregon.gov
You can download a copy of this fact sheet by clicking here

Be aware of any local noise restrictions when tracking your GT500.

Yikes, I was hoping it would make 103db.

Around here we have Laguna Seca which most organizations are dealing with a 90db or 92db noise limit on most days, with few / rare 105db or unlimited sound days each year.

Other two closest tracks, Sonoma and Thunderhill typically have 103 or 105 limits.

May be time to figure out a Laguna Pipe solution. (Turndowns or ins)

I think it's utterly tragic that the DB limits are so low for a RACE TRACK. I mean shit, being near any international airport is well over 120DB in some places.
