So, I just got the call that I am #1 to order my Dealer's GT350R allocation. I know you guys don't like ADM, but they are offering it at MSRP+$7500. I think that is a fair deal, but have concern about one thing.

I really like the GT350R, but I think that if the rumors of a monster '18 GT500 hold true, the GT350R will become easier to attain. WHat are your thoughts on the likely performance differences between the R and the next MY GT500? Do you guys think the R will hold enough value to ensure I don't take a complete bath on the R if I decided to upgrade to a 500 in a year or two? Thank you in advance.

There's no way you would ever take a "bath" with a GT350R, let alone a GT350. The R is too rare for that.

Obviously, in the big picture, the ADM you pay now is probably a lost cause but that's the price of admission.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the GT500 changing anything for the GT350R. I would assume they will be 2 very different cars. One is a crazy track car with a FPC N/A engine. I'm assuming the 500 will be boosted in some way and be more about straight up power (don't know much about it so I have no idea).

Moral of the story is, IMO, $7500 ADM for a GT350R is a steal.

The GT500 will definitely be a monster. It sounds like the GT350 R is not for you.

You'd likely take a hit. The GT500 will diminish the value of the 350 for a bit, until probably 2020 I'd say (if the GT500 comes out in 2018).

However, you just have to decide what's right for you. Many people liked the Boss more than the last GT500, many people like the LS7 Z06 over the ZR1, etc.

If it's possible to let me take that R allocation @ $7500 ADM, let me know. :p

Just buy it. Very few cars appreciate or hold their values over time... a few past Porsches come to mind... The 350 and especially the 350R are the first Ford cars in a long time (previous Ford GT) that have a chance at holding or appreciating. The R, more than the non-R.

It's always a risk. Will you take a bath? I think most here will tell you no.

You don’t want to know
Generally speaking, buyers interested in the GT 350 are not going to be interested in the GT 500 - the character of the cars will be very different. That said, IMHO the GT 350Rs (and all but a handful of the GT 350s) will be sold long before the GT 500 hits the market.

70-80k is a lot to spend on a maybe. I wouldn't commit to that financially unless I was sure. The R is going to hold its value at sticker all day long for a few years. If you decide to sell used within the next year or two its going to be a gamble on the market. If R models with markups are on dealer lots still I can almost guarantee a potential buyer would rather pay over sticker for a new one, then over sticker for your used one.

If your concerned about being beat on the straight line or having "that number" to show how big your balls are then the R is not for you. Only way the R is going to give you that clout is if you have lap times to brag about with guys that road race. If that is not your plan then I wouldn't go that route. You can brag about dyno numbers and never race with the GT500, but that wont happen with the R

Has nothing to do with bragging. I am way to old to worry about that stuff. Truth be told, I will likely never take it to the track. And eating the ADM is not a worry either. If the consensus is that the R will hold sticker value for some time(or close to it), I think it would be a no brainer to get it. ANd if I really want to go fast, I will jump on my R1. My main concern, as addressed above, is a significant reduction in value due to demand dropping if the GT500 is amazing.

Where are you paying $6-8K in taxes? I think we are capped at $300 here in South Carolina.

To answer your question, if you really want the GT500, buy the R and resell it. Or sell your allocation for a profit and use the money towards a down payment on the GT500.

Your paying $1300 in gas guzzler tax right on the sticker before you get to apply your state sales tax plus destination and licensing, those are all add-on taxes.

True. Just to make sure, I called the dealer and there is $778 in tag, tax and dealer fees to buy the car in South Carolina. The $1300 is something that everyone pays equally, so not really concerned about that. Had me worried for a minute on the sales tax though. I guess the ADM on this car is the equivalent to many people's sales tax.
