I had this same question. My 2017 GT is my DD...No track or drag racing (except for occassional stop light wars). I have an axleback exhaust, but not going to do headers, supercharger, or any other major power adder. I'm wondering if I'd really benefit from the GT350 IM. Thinking i should just do a CAI and tune, and call it a day
For your "occasional stop light" encounters a Lund flex tune with LU47 injectors and GT350 manifold will make quite an impression. E85 does make a difference. For me personally the 350 mani will be worth it. Hopefully will get to do the install next weekend. My car is a DD and drivability is important so not doing GT350 TB staying stock.

No, please don't try to rev the stock intake manifold to 7500rpms, lol. Yes itll make it there, NO it is not making more power or going faster than if you just shifted it at 7000 and use the higher torque in the next gear

Cobra Jet and GT350 are within spitting distance of each other in all ways. The only dynos out there comparing the two are WITHOUT full cam timing tunes for the GT350. With that tuning, the torque loss is near non-existent. Yes, Cobra Jet flows more past 7,000rpms. Not a TON, but yes it does. IT WILL NOT likely flow any better than the GT350 without headers, both setups will suffer past 6500rpms on stock headers.

The downsides of the CJ manifold is fitment and tuning side. There are 4 options today for a tune for the GT350 manifold that will 100% drive like stock (FRPP, Lund, AED, HP Tuners [yes the FRPP tune is out there to download and use]). For me, that means a lot, and would prefer the GT350 setup.

I have never tried to install or use a CJ setup, so take it for what its worth. I installed a full GT350 setup (manifold, cold air, throttle body), loaded a HP Tuner tune, and was out beating the snot out of it in under 3 hours.

If interested I am considering selling my GT350 setup, shoot me a PM.

How can someone download the FRPP tune for the gt350 IM when they are VIN specific?

I upgraded to GT350 IM, LU47 Injectors, JLT CAI, and running an MMR TB Adapter with stock TB. I have LUND FF Tune, however, I am on stock headers/cats with MBRP Race catback. The car behaves so much differently! I kept my headers/cats because it keeps volume down and I don't have to come up with excuses if I get pulled over in this emission hell that is CA. The butt dyno can tell a difference in power, especially on the top end. My car felt like it fell flat at 6500 RPM, but now it just keeps pulling, like it doesn't want to stop, all the way up to 8k RPM. I've hurt some feelings that people weren't expecting from my stang. Love it. Highly recommend, especially if not going FI. :headbang:

Did you add all of your power mods at once? How does power delivery compare to stock intake in low/mid RPM ranges?

I've heard nothing but great things about the GT350 IM in upper RPM ranges but for lower RPMs the feedback has been mixed.

I had JLT CAI and FF Tune. The butt dyno can barely tell a difference in lower range. To be honest if I'm rowing gears I don't feel much difference in the mid range at all. Normal driving, I can tell a minute difference in very low RPM from before, but it's honestly miniscule, because once power comes back and keeps pulling, you forget about it.... I'd say real world difference is someone getting a slight jump on you for a few feet. If that makes sense?

What is "very low RPM"?

Almost sounds like you lose a little bit low & mid-range but gain a lot up top.

I'd say I can tell a difference (loss of TQ) under 3500 rpm. To me this is normal driving range. And yes exactly, large differences are felt the higher in RPM you go. Over 6k rpm is where the real big differences start and where it shines. Honestly the loss of TQ/power in lower RPM isn't a big deal to me. I don't honestly feel it as much. You definitely notice the top end. Yes, down low you lose a bit, but if you're shifting at 7500 rpm or higher, next gear is already over that low end RPM range, and into the RPM range where the GT350 IM is making more power.

That's good to hear. I'm in SoCal as well and have been thinking of the same mod. I run the car at the track (HPDE's) and could really use the higher RPM power. I just don't want to loose any low end grunt.

I didn't really feel like I lost anything down low. Down low feels the same. Once I hit 4,000rpm, it really starts to shine and continues to shine until 7500ish.

Did you notice that the GT350 IM isn't CA legal when you purchased it? I noticed that the IM by itself was not CA compliant when looking on American Muscle, but the Power Pack 3 is CA compliant. Thought that was very strange.

Also, how do you like the JLT CAI? I'm not a huge fan of the GT350 CAI.

The reason is that C.A.R.B. extorts thousands of dollars from any manufacturer that wants to submit an aftermarket part for their approval. That is why many aftermarket parts for our cars that have something to do with the engine, but don't effect emissions (oil catch cans for example), are not C.A.R.B. compliant. It's not worth the money for the company to pay thousands just to be able to sell that part in California.

The C.A.R.B. approval that Ford obtained was for the entire PP3 package. If they wanted to obtain C.A.R.B. approval for just the intake manifold, they would have to pay thousands and submit a request for approval for just the intake manifold alone.

My wife pretty much said the same thing, I disagreed with her because that's what husbands do!

It does seem logical though, can't stand this state.

Yes I know it isn't CARB compliant. But I'll deal with that when smog time comes. LEO's around my area are much quicker to look for cats than to pop a hood.

I like the JLT CAI, adds a nice look to the engine bay. Wasn't a fan of the GT350 CAI either, that's the reason I went with JLT. Do have to say though that sitting idle in traffic sure does make IAT climb pretty quickly. Only negative thing I have to say about it.

I'll have to monitor the IAT in traffic to see if mine climbs, never thought to check mine.
