I agree with everything in your post! Amazing right?

IMO if you can't afford track days you should have a cheaper car. I actually somewhat regret buying the GT350 for this reason. I could afford more days at the track if I had a regular GT or 1LE. But then I get in the car and rev it out and decide the car is worth it.
Cheapest is driving like mad men around the private streets circling this mall that is closed today (the street is private so no hassle from the cops). I take a couple of high speed passes just to keep my skill up and then go to this coffee shop to chew the fat with other car guys. So about 10 minutes ago this guy in a double decker bus (I won’t say the name of the bus company to protect the dude’s job) comes flying into the course so fast I literally thought he was out of control and skirted off to the side. But no! The dude was racing the course in a double decker bus! FUCKUNG INCREDIBLE! There is no other way to put it! And this from a guy who can save the day in a loaded fish-tailing five ton. Truly awesome driving! Something to do on a very slow Good Friday I guess.

Ok, back to you guys that pay through the nose for some track time.

While I’m off topic I would be a jerk to disparage legitimate racing events. But let me say this to those of you my age that may be getting into the organizer part of the event. And that is: Don’t go cheap on the plaques and trophies! I have one that means much to me and the guy I beat told me at the time “he lost the will to live!” I still have it to this day but the award was this cheap particle board and chrome plated plastic thing. The people who competed for that deserve better. The last award I handed out was real solid wood, brass and glass. Something the guy would be proud to put on his shelf and display.

Ok - Rant over...

A V6 Mustang would be fun at a track event. You aren't going to get an experience like an HPDE on any road around a mall, unless you have an instructor, other drivers and spend at least 15 minutes straight driving.

If I could do it again, I'd have an FRS/BRZ and supercharge it, upgrade the suspension and cooling, and still have paid notably less than the Mustang -- and I bet I'd have most of them on lap times, especially at tighter courses. And consumables are 1/2 the price at worst.

Between track fees, gas, tires, brake pads, etc. I've calculated that it costs around $500 per day for the road course. That is if the track is local. Add even more if there is a long drive and a hotel involved.

That being said, I've never had more fun in a car than at a track day. It certainly teaches a lot of new skill and newfound respect for racing as well. I feel like most people with a performance car should do a weekend driving school on track at least once. It is worth the cost for the knowledge you gain in just a couple of days.

Buying a 1LE, PP2, GT350, etc and not taking it to a track doesn't make much sense. Seems like you'll just be driving around with cold tires. Cold tires are sad. :(

AutoX can be fun, but it just doesn't give me the spark in the balls that a high speed road course does. It is a nice way to compete on the cheap though. Too much sitting around time for me. Plus shagging cones sucks.
My hats off to the people that buy a purpose built car. And drive it as such. My experience with road courses was at New Jersey Motorsports Park
In a big turbo SRT-4. Full suspension. (inverted KW coilovers, caser camber plates,
body stiffners thru out the chassis.) The car was amazing for a front drive car. It would easily hang with cars that cost 3-6 times as much. But being front drive it was extremely hard on tires and Brakes. The 1%ers will buy a race car and tow it to the track. The next 5% will drive to and from the track and will whip their purpose built cars. And deal with brakes and tires. There is a few that buy it for back roads. That's the worst option in my opinion. Your still endangering yourself and everyone else on public roads. And finally you have tha majority. I like to call em the motor trend waivers. My car does this cause motor trend says so. They sit at car shows and tell you. I think the 1Le or PP2 will be a collector car and out handle a Corvette??? They drive me crazy!

How much does one speeding or reckless driving ticket costs (ticket, higher insurance, etc)?

If you buy very capable cars, like an SS1LE or Mustang GT PP2, the ONLY way you can properly enjoy the capabilities of the car are at a race track. Period.

Buying a 1LE or GT350R and not taking it to the track is like dating a supermodel but never having sex with her. Makes no sense.

What if the supermodel was a huge bitch and you were only with her because she was rich and left you alone and you only had to be her arm piece at social events where you met up with some other girl and banged in the bathroom while the supermodel was strutting around the party totally ignorant of where you went.

---such is my life. ;)

Who really buy a camaro to do some racetrack ? I mean a lot , more than twice a year. There is so many choices of used car like porsche, corvette etc that you can modifiy and you don t really care to crash. Who here drives like Randy ?
The same could be said about the Mustang.....

Too bad they don't offer an optional turbocharged engine. Just not enough power stock.
Yea, if It have to part with my S550. The NA Miata is getting a mustang 2.3 ecoboost if it isn't too tall.

Put a whole new spin on Powered By Ford.
