  1. Confirmed: Mustang GT PP2 Overheats in 3 laps on track

Eventually ford will add the cooler to the PP2, just as they had to add it to the GT350 and just as they had to go to IRS. The reason is simply the unrelenting string of bad press, owner complaints, the occasional law suit. They messed up. They know it. They will fix it. I need by 2020, when...
  2. Confirmed: Mustang GT PP2 Overheats in 3 laps on track

Also from Road and Track: "Barnes [Mustang/PP2 Engineering Manager] says that while people will still think it’s a 1LE competitor, and it’ll perform well against a 1LE in a single lap, it’s just not the right car for an extended lapping session." My god, this guys tries to defend Ford's stupid...
  3. Confirmed: Mustang GT PP2 Overheats in 3 laps on track

Now this from Road and Track: "It [Mustang GT PP2] looks at home among Ferraris, Porsches, and Formula 3 cars on pit lane at Monticello Motor Club in upstate New York, where we came to test it—like the thing could lap all day. It can’t. During a session on Monticello’s North Course,the...
  4. Confirmed: Mustang GT PP2 Overheats in 3 laps on track

Amen to that. Sorry for your loss. Cherish the memories. In my racing/tracking circles, we often dedicate races to lost loved ones in the community. It is always so emotional to have the families there as we rev our engines in their memory. I hope you think of your new performance car in the...
  5. Confirmed: Mustang GT PP2 Overheats in 3 laps on track

No Brembos are "needed". Rear Brembos are a convenience factor, not a performance factor. A - It makes it extremely easy to change pads. B - There are zillion of track pads in the common 2 piston rear Brembo sizes.
  6. Confirmed: Mustang GT PP2 Overheats in 3 laps on track

It is not one or the other. Some people enjoy modding their vehicles. On my Jeep, I have a lot of fun working doing mods (lift kits, armor, etc), taking it off road, fixing what brakes. And many people that I instruct like to do the same with their track cars. But there is an even larger...
  7. Confirmed: Mustang GT PP2 Overheats in 3 laps on track

Stunning vehicle and color choice. Looks fast and awesome just standing still. Congrats. P.S. Had ford put in an extra $500 into the PP2 (rear Brembos and diff cooler), I'd be driving/tracking one right now. My student this past weekend was on a Mustang GT, and just being in it on track was...
  8. Confirmed: Mustang GT PP2 Overheats in 3 laps on track

Beautiful car, and congrats for not backing down from tracking it in the rain. Other than standing water or streams crossing the track, the Cup 2s are "ok" specially if you force some heat into them (a bit of overbraking over forced/safe slides at the beginning of a session).
  9. Confirmed: Mustang GT PP2 Overheats in 3 laps on track

ˆˆˆˆ^This. Exactly correct. A lot of people have commented "The Boss 302 diff didn't overheat without a cooler so, PP1/PP2 won't either". Wrong the solid axle was not only a heat sink as you correctly pointed out, it (and the diff) was also A LOT more in the airflow. $2,500 + tax + ˜$2,000...
  10. Confirmed: Mustang GT PP2 Overheats in 3 laps on track

Simple: 1 - Unplug the sensor wire (as recommended by your pal). That will ignore the overheating (at least until the diff locks up and you crash). 2 - Stop clicking on this thread if you not interested in discussing the subject.
  11. Confirmed: Mustang GT PP2 Overheats in 3 laps on track

At some point it becomes apparent that you shouldn't give any credibility to people who: 1 - Insisted that no cooler was needed because the PP2 would not overheat on track. 2 - Once the overheat was confirmed (by the press and many PP2 owners in this very forum), said "just change the fluid...
  12. Confirmed: Mustang GT PP2 Overheats in 3 laps on track

Great to see people building their vehicles. Much respect for your skills. But, please, don't mislead the average buyer of a 2018 Mustang GT wanting to do an occasional track day. Modern cars are much more tightly packaged then the car in your photo. They use many more different materials, they...
  13. Confirmed: Mustang GT PP2 Overheats in 3 laps on track

Thanks for the tips. I can't believe I survived so many years racing and as an HPDE instructor (often doing both on the same weekend), without this knowledge. Just lucky I guess. Now lets get back to the #MeTooPP2 overheating on track, not on any race, just some journos running laps, and...
  14. Confirmed: Mustang GT PP2 Overheats in 3 laps on track

Cool. Let us know how that works out. I think it is a long shot without circulating/cooling the fluid, but It would be nice if it could be done with airflow alone. P.S. Got love how everyone is so confident that it is an easy job to install, fans, pumps, fluid routing hoses, electrical...
  15. Confirmed: Mustang GT PP2 Overheats in 3 laps on track

#MeTooPP2 proven overheating with no simple possible solution and no known/confirmed solution. Be aware. If a proven solution is found, I'll be quick to post here.
  16. Confirmed: Mustang GT PP2 Overheats in 3 laps on track

Parts for the Full Tilt Boggie Cooler, which may not even have an installation instruction sheet made yet, so can't tell you how many pages it will be, but it involves electrical, oil plumbing and mechanical work as well. Likely about the same install time as the Ford. How many of the...
  17. Confirmed: Mustang GT PP2 Overheats in 3 laps on track

Parts list on the Ford cooler kit above:
  18. Confirmed: Mustang GT PP2 Overheats in 3 laps on track

Time for another public service announcement. Many PP2 owners in this very forum have tried exhaust wrapping and diff fluid changes, and found out that their diffs still overheat on casual, non-competitive track day session. Many here casually throw the "just put a diff cooler on it". Lets...
  19. Confirmed: Mustang GT PP2 Overheats in 3 laps on track

I hope it doesn't rain, else, be careful with those Cup 2s. Also hope it is not too hot, else watch out for those diff temps. If the weather is goldilocks just right, I'm sure you will have a blast. Enjoy.
