The sad part about it is that the 5.0 makes no power and should not be close to the Camaro in any way possible. Extremely sad.

I just sold my 15 GT and am now back in the market. So far I have driven a base 16 c7 corvette, 18 GT pp1 auto, Camaro 2ss auto, and stinger gt1. I still plan to drive a cpo M4 and whatever else catches my eye. All of these cars have their good and bad. The only car I have knocked off my list is the Camaro. It was fast especially out the hole, from a roll the Mustang felt better though, the a10 tranny> the a8 that’s in the Camaro. The main drawback on the camaro was the unusable back seats and the super high belt line that makes visibility terrible and gave me the feeling like I was sitting in a bathtub. The Mustang back are bad, but the camaro back seats are much worse. The camaro did feel slightly more nimble in spirited everyday driving. The shortcomings of the camaro would cause me to buy the vette instead if I want with a gm product, it looks miles better, faster, and doesn’t waste your time with worthless back seats. You can actually see better out the vette. The differences between the 18 gt and my tuned 15 were minor on the inside, the 18 felt as fast, but definitely had more headroom and potential. It also cost a lot more. The stinger has loads of room, looks unique and quite good, it is fast as stink for a 4 door and runs 12.8 1/4 stock and 12.20 with less than a grand in mods. It is also cheaper than all but the base mustangs that I priced. The stinger interior blows all the cars listed away, not a bad place to be. That said it lacks the “edge” of the other cars, which I guess can be viewed as a good or bad thing. It is quite a capable handler, just not on the level of any of the pony cars. I keep looking for a killer deal on a 16 vette or 18 gt, pp1, auto 400 or 401a. The Kia keeps me interested, and I’m excited to try out the M4, my last BMW was an awesome car. The outlier is a new JL Jeep Rubicon. I drove one and wow are they nice, they also look awesome. I know down deep if I buy the Jeep that I’ll have it up for sell in less than a year, non sports cars bore me quickly.

Put them on a road course, you'll see a different result, especially if you run more than 15 or 20 minutes and the 'stang goes into limp trying to keep up. The 1LE is an outstanding handling car with far better hard core track equipment than what Ford puts on the Mustang. If I bought a new pony car tomorrow it would be an SS1 1LE, without a doubt.

I don't get the constant needling back and forth between Mustang/Camaro guys. They've both got their pros and cons, but under the skin, we're all car guys aren't we?
The 1LE has a harsh ride.....

Easy decision, buy the Vette. If you do, don’t park it at the mall. Never park it at the mall. Do what I do and park it at some business building parking lot across the street. Don’t ask...Just do...

Also - join your local Corvette club. You will find your car there.

I'll put my 2 cents here since I'm in the market for either an Camaro SS 1LE, a 18/19 Mustang GT PP1/PP2, or a used 17 ATS-V.

I know this is a Mustang forum, but in that video that's the only performance metric where the Mustang won, everywhere where else the 1LE was faster and more capable.

I visit these forums and the 1LE forums daily. I could say I'm as non-biased as they come, since I've never owned a Camaro nor a Mustang, yet I am familiar with the Camaro's powerplant because I owned a C7 Corvette Z51. Since nobody likes to read long paragraphs, I'll break it down on my pros and cons between both cars.

Mustang

Pros:
- upgraded engine for '18, dual port/DI fuel injection, no worrying about dirty intake valves from DI
- interior looks much better
- the new instrument cluster is legit, I want it
- even the base seats are great (for the street)
- LED headlights
- better visibility/driving position
- Michelin Pilot Sport are amazing for the streets
- an e-brake with an actual handle
- Mustang button to store preferred mode

Cons:
- costs more to get the same equipment
- heavier
- feels heavier (there's a difference)
- not as planted/good handling

Camaro

Pros:
- Alpha platform, holy crap it handles like a supercar
- lighter
- LT1/TR-6060 is a proven combo, Chevy can make solid powertrains
- eDiff is amazing
- Recaro seats
- better engine/trans cooling
- better brakes
- rides great despite the phenomenal handling (no Focus RS syndrome)
- PDR
- heads up display
- people are getting these for a steal, the 1LT 1LEs are going for just over $40k
- meaty tires (some people running 305 square for autocross)

Cons:
- stupid small windows, poor visibility
- electronic e-brake
- humps on top of gauges look fugly
- infotainment is angled weird, poor design
- less space to store crap inside the car
- intake valves will get dirty down the line (direct injected)
- headlight design looks weird (as controversial as the 18 Mustang headlights are, to me they look 10x better)
- tons of plastic inside the cabin

I'm probably leaving a few things out, but that's just off the top of my head. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice. If I could have it, I'd have an ATS-V with the updated 5.0, the Mustang's new digital instrument cluster, and probably Sync 3. Oh well, can't have it all.

As for the original post, here's the full video now free, if you can stand the commercials:

My pal has a 17 1ss 1le. He rubs it with microfiber towels and takes pictures of it. It looks cool sitting there!
HaHa true that. 99% of the dipshits that buy them. Will still take them to the drag strip instead of a road course. And they’ll waive copies of motor trend about how great they “Should” handle! A night at the drag strip.=$15 bucks. A day at the road course=$200-300. Plus brakes and tires if you do it right. Most quickly give up on the road course dream. I did.

Winning on the fourms is the most important thing.

Most will give up and do autoX as well. Then they will find that both the Camaro and Mustang are lacking on a super tight course. I am not going to lie. I didn't buy this car for track days. I bought it to play on some fun mountain passes, and it may see one road course a year. I don't have the cash or access to make track days a regular thing.

I bought my mustang simply to have something to argue about! My life was going too good before then!

If anyone buys a 3800lb car the autox's it they're going to have a bad time. I'm not even sure anything matters but tires and weight and those speeds. You could have a chassis built from spaghetti lol.

I agree that at $200-300 a track is a dream for myself as well, I reached 210 degrees driving for my job today for the 1st. time. 75 mph Texas hwys really can be almost as fun as a track. Enjoy Your Ride!

Between track fees, gas, tires, brake pads, etc. I've calculated that it costs around $500 per day for the road course. That is if the track is local. Add even more if there is a long drive and a hotel involved.

That being said, I've never had more fun in a car than at a track day. It certainly teaches a lot of new skill and newfound respect for racing as well. I feel like most people with a performance car should do a weekend driving school on track at least once. It is worth the cost for the knowledge you gain in just a couple of days.

Buying a 1LE, PP2, GT350, etc and not taking it to a track doesn't make much sense. Seems like you'll just be driving around with cold tires. Cold tires are sad. :(

AutoX can be fun, but it just doesn't give me the spark in the balls that a high speed road course does. It is a nice way to compete on the cheap though. Too much sitting around time for me. Plus shagging cones sucks.

I agree with everything in your post! Amazing right?

IMO if you can't afford track days you should have a cheaper car. I actually somewhat regret buying the GT350 for this reason. I could afford more days at the track if I had a regular GT or 1LE. But then I get in the car and rev it out and decide the car is worth it.

If I could do it again, I'd have an FRS/BRZ and supercharge it, upgrade the suspension and cooling, and still have paid notably less than the Mustang -- and I bet I'd have most of them on lap times, especially at tighter courses. And consumables are 1/2 the price at worst.
