Long story short - Got cut off, went off into the grass, went into a drive way, hit a curb going around 60, kept going till i stopped. The guy that cut me off just kept driving  Insurance quoted $8,767.08 to fix. Good thing my deductible is only $500.

I need to get a dashcam going. Some stupid blond sipping her coffee cut me off this morning. I had to slam on my brakes.

Th person just caused a nearly major accident..luckily it looks like a sparse stretch and you thought they would stop ? Nope. Keep going. Hell, they probably think it was your fault.

People are so careless today, I have to put FEAR into them to stop doing what they are doing. After someone tries to lock it up in front of me for no reason or cuts me off, I make sure they know what they did. I'll speed up to get beside them and rev up my loud exhaust and let it pop and crackle. Not the best way to release frustration and make sure they know what they did, but it makes you feel better after the fact.

Before anyone says it... I know... the other person could have a weapon... blah blah blah. I get it.

Sorry it happened like that OP. It sucks, but the car can be repaired as long as you are okay.

You can't fix stupid.

People have poor impulse control and most have never been in a major accident. So driving is the only control they have in their lives and they use it to vent emotional frustration on others.

Really the best course of action is to employ a little defensive driving. When you see people driving a certain way give them room, pick a different lane, look for outs. You can almost see this type of thing coming, and although it's not what you want to do changing your driving just a bit to anticipate this type of foolishness is the best way to stay out of situations. Retaliating is just lowering yourself to their dumbness.

But you can't avoid everything. Even before I got this car I've had run-ins with this type of behavior. Once I had a guy cut me off on the freeway then slam on his brakes in front of me. I was in our old tahoe, so I knew the brakes weren't the best - I used the on-ramp on my right plus the shoulder to simply slide around him to avoid the collision. Since he was about to miss out on the accident and insurance claim he wanted he matted it and slammed into me as I was going by.

I got a ticket from the Washington State Patrol for driving in the shoulder, and the trooper blamed me for the accident. Apparently I was driving a 12 year old tahoe with 200k miles on it way too aggressively. I fought it in court and got it dismissed, which was time, money and serious aggravation. My insurance company took responsibility. My premiums went up.

At least I avoided a major freeway accident, and we still have this old tahoe to kick around.

Nothing works better getting the attention of a distracted driver like a set of train horns from @hornblasters.

4 horns mounted around my spare tire well can not only wake the dead but remind that driver long after the incident what it was like the day they sh@t their pants in the car :D:D

In my opinion it is just like an animal in the road, you stay in your lane and keep your course because otherwise it is completely your fault as your response resulted in the accident. If someone cuts you off and you can't brake safely, seems like you were going too fast for the conditions.

Make sure you double check everything under the car before you sign off on everything to take the car back, wouldn't want to to find future issues with your mods because the insurance/shop took shortcuts!

Hitting that curb @ 60 as you say, what’s it look like underneath - did it blow out the oil pan or crack the trans case?

Dash cam..

Dash cam is the way to go. Have one in each car....It's actually funny when people cut you off or don't yield and you point to the dash cam in the window, they tend to stop being an ass........

Both my cars have retained power so the dash cams run 24/7. The other week early Saturday, a car alarm went off in front of my house. I got there in about 30 seconds but no one around. As my Escape was on the street that night, I pulled the sim out of the camera and low and behold got a clean video of the guy walking down the street checking car doors. You can even hear him trying my car door.....

Worth every penny........

What happens if he breaks in and steals your dash cam?

I would wager your average mope who is breaking into unlocked cars late at night would not notice a dash cam. But to your point, if you know it's there it would be pretty easy to steal.

I recently installed a dual channel dash cam with a Cellink battery backup for parking mode.... too many idiots on the roads and my work parking lot is chock full of non-parking dipsticks.
