I went to install PP control arms and this is what I found for the rear arm. It looks substantially stronger than the PP arm. Anyone know what this is?

After a bit of searching it appears these are the base control arms. I think I'd rather keep these and use the bearing from the PP arms.

It's always something.

What year is your car?

Been thinking about switching mine up for PP control arms to improve steering but I've heard from another installer on a thread somewhere that his newer base mustang already had front pp control arms.

I have a 2020 gt...

The 350 arms have a different height on the ball joint if you wanted another option to look at. iirc they were setup for a 3/4 drop compared to gt and adjusted the arms to match.

That said I've been on the pp arms and lowered an inch for few years with out issue.

My dilemma is the base arm looks more robust than the PP.

The 350 arms look the same as pp, maybe not what you want then.

I'd take busted arm over torn mount in the cradle. Audi does this but usually uses alum arms. I bet you'll be fine if they all made it through fords r&d. Although the rear shock mounts did too...

I'm going to put the PP arms on. Just surprised.

PP arms are forged steel, stock is basically a piece of pipe welded to a solid piece of steel, heavier yes but I doubt stronger. I installed mine in place of the stock ones and noticed a little quicker steering, a slight change only but an improvement

They PP arm is far stronger than a welded tube, plus has the spherical bearing in it. Forgings cost more to make than fabricated parts.

I suppose it depends on the wall thickness of the tube. I don't think Ford would put a weaker part in a PP, but one never knows.

Is it a real spherical bearing? It looks like it needs to be clocked for tightening.
