I Hope everyone’s summer is going well. I know that this issue is an old concern, however for me, as a new owner of a new 2023 M1 that I bought this year, it’s making me a little crazy. Namely, the very low height to the ground of the HP splitter. I drive the car with extreme care, always keeping an eye out for possible road imperfections that could damage it. Last week, while exiting a relatively new plaza parking lot, at a crawl, the splitter bottomed out. Took the car to my favourite body shop. The splitter had been roughed up along the outer edge, and a number of the rivets were hanging down. Solution was to either replace the lower splitter ( parts plus 4 hrs labour ), remove the lower splitter ( $375 ) & tuck it away, or use heat ( either a butane torch or heat gun ) to try and restore the roughed up areas. The concern being, I’m very likely going to have another lower splitter encounter. Possibly worse. The owner has seen M1s with the entire lower splitter snagging something, which has has ripped both splitters, and also pulled the lower grill ( torn it partially away due to the force ). I love the current look of the two piece splitter, but it limits my relaxation level when driving. I can’t afford to be replacing the dang thing at the drop of the hat. Not sure to what degree removing the lower splitter may negatively affect the look of the car. Crazy about this car; thought I’d seek your opinions. Cheers!
