Anyone had their front bumper re-sprayed/blended? How much did you pay?

About to replace my license plate hole bumper cover with a no hole cover and have it painted/matched. :)

sold my 2018 GT350 :(
Read the Car & Driver long term test for details on how much of a PITA it was to have the front bumper stripes put back on after a repair.

$700? Jeez. I normally paint my own stuff, but the new bumper cover I still haven't installed, I found a local small paint shop with great reviews and I saw their work, and since it was a new cover and factory paint code he charged me $250.

Yup mine was $536. Plus the cost of a bumper and stripes... and labor to install the stripes.

I shop go to would get around 500-550 to paint/install bumper cover and blend into each fender. Without the blending he would get 300-350 to paint just the bumper cover.

I estimate a full bumper paint job to be around $700
That's about what it would be in my area too - as long as it wasn't one of the special colors which are very hard to match.

I can only find one bumper available. Going to the dealer to take a look today.

Does every GT350 front bumper produced by Ford have license plate dimples/recesses on the front of it?

2017 GT350 now gone to a great home.
I'm sure the stripes mitigate the mounting dimples. I think most modern cars do come with those idiot-proof alignment dimples. I cannot see them on my car with stripes.

I can see the recessed area through the stripes. The ''crater' is apparent to me but honestly I'm one of those OCD types. :( It didn't look like the stripeless GT-350's had this dimple. Interesting nonetheless though.

That doesn't make sense to me. Factory bumpers aren't painted with the same paint formula or at the same time as the sheet metal. So they are not an exact match. Seems crazy to affect adjacent panels by blending, not to mention side effects of having the other components of the bumper paint (flex agents, etc) sprayed onto the fenders.

No flex agents involved with base coat / clear coat on bumper panels. No need if the surface is prepped correctly and you are using quality primer / base and clear coat.

Blends happen because paint ages. UV exposure, polishing, wear etc etc. Not to mention matching (even factory paint codes) depends on temp / humidity etc etc. This makes the newly painted part of the car a different shade than the rest of the car. Especially noticeable on colors with metallic in them.

I've personally painted more than a few rear / front plastic bumper covers and never used flex agents. Some painters use them - every painter I know at large volume collisions centers repairing newer cars do not 99% of the time. But to be clear the flex agents aren't normally in the base coat, they are usually added to the primer or the clear coat.

Urethane based base coats and clear coats rely on a physical AND chemical bond.
