FPRS GT350R Endurance Build

I wonder if it's this one.. it's pre production. Mid Ohio 2015..

I will be really pissed if I pay for fprs two day.. again and the fp350s comes right after..

It could be that car......

The FP350S should be at the school in April. Chances are it wont be used for the 2 day school for quite some time. I will find out more next week. Was hoping to go for a ride in it on track myself.

As promised I had an opportunity to spend a little more time with the Ford Performance Racing School GT350R after the Raptor Assault. The philosophy used to build this car, and the story behind it make it even more interesting. FPRS got this car shortly after they received their school GT350’s. Their contact at Ford HQ actually called FPRS and informed them that they had 3 EXTRA GT350R models, and wanted to know if they wanted them. You can only imagine what the answer was…

This car will live its life at FPRS and also see duty at some local race events. It turns out this will not be an endurance car, but in fact the FP350S will be. The philosophy behind the car is keep as many OEM components/systems on it as possible in an effort to show how capable the car is. A Watson Racing Cage, A/C delete, FP350S exhaust, full race gauges, and some sticky tires are all that is in store at the moment. The A/C delete caused some issues as it left an open space in the boxed lower portion of the engine compartment. This required some new boxing to be done to keep turbulence out of the engine bay and under the car. After speaking with Dan McKeever we may also see an MGW shifter on the vehicle for some serious track validation.

There area few very unique parts and problems associated with this build. First off, the removal of many sensors and computers not needed for track use has caused issues with the ECU. Something as simple as swapping the exhaust will remove the exhaust butterflys. As many of us know the car will not allow you to switch drive modes without them cycling through properly. This problem has reoccurred in other areas where sensors were removed, and will require some innovating tuning from one of the technicians at Ford.

One of the most interesting features about his build is the use of Boss 302 headers! That’s right, OEM Boss 302 headers bolt right up to the Voodoo. The flange that connects to the midpipe is not the same, but you could modify that portion of the exhaust to make it work. If you had a set laying around from the sale of your Boss, or wanted to run an aftermarket shorty header for the Boss you could.

There are also some very slick quick release trunk latches discreetly built into the trunk and wing.

Any 5.0 header will fit the GT350 5.2.
They exhaust valve fix is very easy and cheap. Just buy the Grimmspeed resisters. Plug and play and cheap. Only $25.00 per side.
Not sure why the hell they used those truck latches. Why not use the same from the FP350S and GT4?
Why didn’t they use the FP oil catch cans?

Nothing they are doing seems to make sense.
No benefits from 5.0 headers.
Putting single tip mufflers on looks really bad.

Double tip mufflers do nothing for exhaust flow, so that makes sense to skip at least.

I know it does nothing for flow. I’m talking more about the fact that they removed the stainless tips and have the ugly ass muffle tip sticking out.
I have a problem with crude work.

It is true.
You can use any 5.0 header on the voodoo. The voodoo has a 4 bolt bolt pattern on the center 2 exhaust ports. Just remove the 2 studs and use the opposite corners and your good to go.

There has been progress. I got the update from FPRS on Tuesday that their GT350R was going to be complete by the end of the week. Both sets of the SV502 were still in transit through UPS. Luckily the wheels were scheduled to be delivered on Friday and everything worked out.

I just got these photos today and have to admit I am VERY impressed with how the gloss gunmetal SV502 look against the Shadow Black. Really digging what they did with the interior also.

Maybe I missed it, but what's the point of this car? Point blank, what do they intend to do with it?

So it seems that its not a day 2 (with an upcharge) car because I'm stuck driving the schoolhouse GT. So what is the car's mission in life at FPRS? It seems its not for the general population

This will mostly compete in local races. Really an excerxise in showing what a race prepped R with all the OEM components can do and be competitive. Intending to keep as many OEM parts and systems as possible. Save for the carbon wheels as the cost to replace is high in wheel to wheel racing.

The cool thing is those local races are staffed by those who work at FPRS. All the techs that service the driving school cars get to go out and compete with these special builds. They will be pit crew, drivers, engineers, and all things inbetween. FPRS does some of these projects to reward them for all their hard work during the year, and they get to go race for free. It also helps when higher ups get to come to the track and have a unique car to drive.

Since I'm 5 minutes from that track, I may need to see if I can go to a few of the races this year and check it out.
