As much as I like Perez, Verstappen is just on another level than every one else currently. There’s nothing Redbull could have told him to keep him out in front. And some may disagree with this part, but I don’t think Verstappen was really pushing, he was fully in control almost robotic today.
The medium tire did not perform as expected at the beginning of the race. Add that to Max’s run from laps 20-40 on the hard tire and Checo was a sitting duck. I think he learned tire management from Lewis. 🤭

Basically more Red Bull dominance....Only thing Max had to worry about was first lap shenanigan's. You can really tell that Max is on another level compared to Checo and the car is obviously built to Max's style.

I was surprised and impressed about the maturity Max showed yesterday. Getting past those first few laps without incident and then making those hard tires last 40 laps.

I should preface this by saying that I have not seen a live F1 race on TV since the old Speed channel days. With that said, I always watch the highlights on youtube.. I still love the cars and the racing.

Anyway - this was the first one I watched live in years and I don't ever remember the prerace stuff being so long and so bad. I did not enjoy any of it. I want technically analysis and speculation about the cars - not the celebrity nonsense we got for at least an hour and a half. I was about to turn it off it was so boring! Then the race finally started and I was happy.

Welcome to the new world of NASCAR...oops sorry, I meant Formula 1. Just waiting until Las Vegas. That said I actually enjoyed the driver intros done by LL Cool J.

Hello; First let me agree with you. I had set the DVR to record the race. Happened I got to sit down and start watching about 45 minutes after the listed start time. The prerace stuff was still going on. So, I reset the DVR to add an hour more recording time and went to do some more chores. Came back and the stuff was still going on, so I added more record time. Wound up with over five hours recorded.
One thing i noticed is this was broadcast on a different channel than other races. Channel 6 rather than ESPN. Guess they wanted to hype up the race, but it was a waste of time. I skipped all that stuff anyway.

To the NASCAR reference from another. Yes NASCAR went nuts with the race hype a few decades ago. The ads and other foolishness got me to thinking of the spectacle like the hype around wrestling. Anyway NASCAR became so much less interesting after Dale Earnhart passed away at Daytona. I stopped going to the races so much and do not watch every race. Often skipping to the last 20 or 50 laps.
I started going to NASCAR races in the late 1950's 0r early 1960's before I could drive. Things are changed. The cars on track have no relationship to the cars we can buy anymore.

It is not changing anytime soon. F1 has grown the audience tremendously with these changes.

There was a report that there were still tickets available for the race at reduced prices. Yet they announced that attendance was up 30K. Hmmmm, something doesn't smell right.

TV viewership is what I am talking about.

As for in person tickets those are really for the wealthy at this point. I looked into getting tickets for the Vegas race and it is stupid expensive.

They added 30k seats to this years race. It looked to me like there was quite a few empty vip deals. I’m not sure if any of you have ever priced that stuff, but ridiculous doesn’t even get ti.

My wife really wants me to go see and F1 race because I’m a fan and it’s a bucket list thing. We were pricing Vegas and it came out to 10K per person when everything was said and done for just that event. I’d rather invest that money on a 15 day vacation in Europe. Italy here we come. Wife finished her passport paper work.

Cota is awesome. Started going when it opened. Cota does offer a bus in bus out deal, driving in is a exercise in patience to say the least. Montreal is really cool to. Actually wasn’t bad as dollars went to go. We stayed down town and took the train to the track each time. People were super nice. I don’t have any interest in going to Vegas or Miami, but to each there own. Montreal allowed people to bring coolers in back then which was pretty astonishing, but cool. Going doesnT have to be a break the bank experience. I think including air fare my wife and I were 2500-2800 for montreal all in there and back. A European track would be super cool to go to as well.

I’m going to look at prices at the autódromo. If we can swing it definitely will do that. I want to do pit passes. That’s what makes it fun. Did that with my brother years ago in Indiana for the MotoGP. That was a blast. Getting to talk to the guys and take pics. Maybe foregoing pit passes will help pricing but seriously that experience was so damn fun. Never forget it.

Pit pass’s are spendy for F1. I want to say they were 5kish last time I looked but I might be wrong. Motogp in most ways has F1 beat hands down as far as the fan side goes. At Cota all the manufacturers are there and you can ride most of the new stuff. The crowd is completely different then F1 to. For me the absolute best experience being a race fan was WEC. Tickets are what I consider cheap, the access to the pits is completely unfettered and the teams will actually talk to you while your in the pits, most drivers included. The cars across all class’s are spectacular.
