Forged Induction and Spark Plugs

Installed NGK 6510 plugs when I added boost and gapped them at .026". I have 16K with FI and took a buddy for a spin a few weeks ago. Got a CEL. Code P300, random misfires. Plugs looked pretty worn upon inspection.

Installed new 6510's at the same gap. No codes during a test run. But I would almost bet the car felt like it picked up 30+ horsepower. It pulled really hard. Spins my Nitto 555R's at anything under 55 mph with a hard hit.

So I am sharing this if you have been running your plugs for over 15K it might be time to change. Going to change them at around 10K from now on.

Plug life depends on many things. To name a few... whether or not you use an octane booster, whether or not your car uses oil, quality of fuel... etc etc etc.

I ran 6510's for a while in my car and it ran well with them.

"Forged Induction" is the newest thing. I had a feeling when I dropped out of the 3rd grade it would come back to haunt me.

Maybe you had some fake ones? It's such an annoying problem these days with NGK plugs lol. Boost is harder on them but I'd expect them to make it to at least 25-30k

Beefcake sent me Brisk for my whipple 3.0 stage 2. I gaped them at .28 as per Whipple install directions for their 3.75 pulley. Bur, I am now E85 fuel system and plan to run 14-15lbs boost. Don't know if I have to reduce gap or not?

NGK are one of the more common knock off risks. There's plenty of videos that you can watch that show the extent that the faux companies will go to in order to make them nearly impossible to spot the fakes from the real mccoy.

Probably the single biggest cultural difference between Western Civilization and Asia. They simply do not subscribe or adhere to the idea of intellectual property of any kind (including patents, trademarks, brands).

There's a reason that China has more people of genius IQ than the entire United States population and yet the US has over 50 times as many Nobel Prizes. There's just no natural incentive to innovate or create anything. It's a waste because someone else will simply take all your hard work and replicate it, often times in an inferior fashion. They create virtually nothing. All they can really do is rob someone else's ideas and innovations.

When I bought my plugs, I read the horror stories that even what you think are legit sources could be knock offs.

Fascinating information. I did not know there were near physically perfect copies of the 6510's.

Makes sense since the Amazon price was $54.00 for full set of 8, and I paid about $125.00 at O'Reilly's.

What Dougs550 said, how can you tell genuine from knock-off's?
