Been a while since I’ve posted, but finally got around to removing the stock shift knob and installing the FP white knob. Cool look of course and super easy install. FP has 20% off (cheaper than amazon), but the main point for this group is the ergonomics. Night and day - so much better. Like driving a different car.

Totally agree! The factory shift knob is much taller than the FRP unit. The FRP feels and shifts a lot smoother - and allows shifting with a flick of the wrist. A worthy upgrade.

Exactly - I'm surprised I haven't heard this reaction more.

The only downside is that the FRP shift knob is not weighted like the original.

Plus improper installation can damage the knob....use a fair amount of blue Loctite on the threads and let it cure overnight.

How is this possible? It’s just an ergo thing. What am I missing.
I haven’t switched mine due to the heat issues of heavy steel knobs.
BTW… The round white is so classy, it looks fantastic.

Fred...you dind't miss anything. Another subjective topic. I've been through three shift knobs and always end up back with the stock one. Sure, the personality of aftermarket knobs if that's your thing, but for me, none of them fit nor shift in my hand better than the stock one. And the stock one just "fits" the interior better. Again, just my measly $0.02.

Good point - all comes down to personal feel. I was just really surprised how much better this one "felt" to me.

It's a totally subjective, ergo thing. I never liked the factory knob's appearance - and it didn't feel great in my hand. The FRP knob feels nicer to my hand. I like the simplicity of the black cue ball design.

Functionality?

Because the total height of the shifter is lower with the FRP knob, the distance the shifter knob travels when shifting is lower. The shift effort is slightly greater because there's now less lever arm above the shift lever fulcrum.

Big improvement over the stock knob which looks way too down market for a car like this. Definitely need a little blue loctite and make sure you don't crank down too far on it as I think you can crack the knob itself as there is no natural stop to the internal threads

I was able to snag one of these! They only made 30 in red and blue! I haven’t put it on yet, I kinda like the factory knob feel, but I definitely like the look of the red ball!

Me as well. Spent a fair amount in a Raceng translucent red knob and lockout. Absolutely hated the way it felt, and went back to stock. Have a Raceng on my Gt and it feels really good. Ironic.

I had my wife "gift" me an alcantara stock shifter that Autofantic custom makes. I love the look and feel of an alcantara shifter. I think it dresses up the interior a bit.

A simple tip to help keep from cracking the top of the FP knob and also to align the shift pattern. Use the recommended blue locktite, but also a few soft copper crush washers (like the sort used for banjo fittings on brake lines) as spacers to ensure that the knob doesn't bottom out on the shifter and to give you something to tighten down against.

I just got a carbon fiber factory knob from MPR. Amazing. Hands down my favorite.
