Flushing Differential Cooler

If i am reading your reply correctly, I would disagree. If the differential needs replacing, I would replace the cooler as well if there was any concern over contaminants due to damage.

Oh, I'm not offering up my own opinion there, just providing the data that shows that the process is indeed discussed in the manual and as a response to the gentleman that had a dealer say it wasn't called out. Personally, I want factory fresh and not dealer-style quickie flush. Call it over the top if you want but when it comes to a cooler and its associated plumbing, I want it to be as clean as possible and new hardware definitely gives that confidence.

This is my concern.

I'm guessing the reason the dealer does not have the procedure is there is not one. I.e. replace the diff cooler.

This is what my race shop says (replace), BUT the car is under warranty.

See my conundrum??

YUP that's my thinking cheap insurance, especially if there was any shrapnel found.

That is great and all, but Ford is footing the bill. They will be the one that makes the choice of flush the old cooler or replace. That is not saying the customer can't request it be done and hope ford plays ball, but if not, the customer can always have the cooler and lines replaced at his cost. That is if a replacement is even avail. to install. That might be why the car has been at the dealers for as long as it has.

To the O/P try to keep your cool, the dealership and service dept and tech are at the will of Ford on this. They are in the middle here, they want you to be happy, but only can do so much. Try to remember where to focus your anger when and if you loose your collective crap.

The point is, if suspect hadware is paid for via warranty coverage that's great but if not then you find a way to get it done. If it must come out of your own pocket, so be it. The cooler, lines, differential, and bearings, care not where the money comes from. Hence why I said some may see it as over the top and that includes Ford and what they will cover.

If it were me I'd pay to have the satisfaction of knowing . Dealer has no problem with do overs as they say.

Then road tripping back and forth to a dealer waiting for ones turn in line for service, what a concept .

Thanks for this post -- you are 100% correct and I am glad I read it this morning before reaching out yet again to the dealership.

I and still covered under Ford power-train and also have a 100% bumper to bumper warranty/service contract (sold to me by the dealer) and don't think it want to start accepting them denying repair costs - I've only had the car 8 months.

I agree with this, especially if the OP plans to keep the car past the warranty. Yes, a flush might be enough to get most of the debris out, but there will still be some in there and there's no filtration in the system.
Differentials are tough, but I still wouldn't want to have stuff floating around in there.
