ansibe - Well I can only speak for our 2016 Camaro 2SS compared to our PP cars, to include my personal PP.

*To clarify, I am a HUGE, YUUUGE S550 fan. This is why I have two of my own.

So that being said, the comparisons here with the two is that the Camaro makes much more power in stock form, and delivers that power much more effectively.

The Camaro is around the same weight. It comes with better cooling mods, it has what I feel is a better suspension system, and it also comes from the factory with rev-matching.

Track comparison is, our stock 2016 Camaro SS was able to click off lap times in the 1.21 - 1.22 range at the Firm, in 100% factory trim. With the PP GT, to match those times with the same driver, it took a square 10.5" wheel set-up with track tires and chassis / suspension mods.
@stoli a member here can vouch for us running our cars at the track there (The Firm) as he has been there every single time it seems like. He has one of the fastest times I know of there in his S550, but he is also very familiar with the track and has a decent bit of modifications, to include auto-blip, wheels and tires and about 80rwhp more than stock, or so..

Having beat the snot out of both, the 6spd manual trans in the GM is definitely far superior to the MT82. When "comparing" the cars side by side at WOT, the Camaro walks away pretty hard from our S550s.

Again, I love the S550. By performing the mods that I mentioned above:

1: Square 10" wheels with good tires (285/35 is my vote)
2: A mildly stiffer rate set of linear springs
3: Koni, Bilstein, Steeda or FRPP FIXED Shock Kit (all4)
4: CB005 Cradle Bushing Lockout Kit / Ford M5A460M Toe Bearing
5: Upgraded Sway Bars and End Links
..it really changes the S550 in every way and puts it much at a much closer level to the GM platform, where the tires would likely be the "tie breaker" and at a significantly lower cost of entry.

The S550 is markedly more comfortable and user friendly as a DD. The Camaro has ridiculously poor visility both inside and outside the car and the gauges/controls are horrible in the Gen 5 Camaro's. I rate it as a 1 on a 1-10 scale. The designer of the interior should be publically waterboarded. I will never own another Camaro, but will likely take the plunge for a Z06 next time around. Aside from the 1LE handling (and solely the handling)- i'll rock this S550 Until the F*****g cows come home.:)

Thanks Kelly. My neighbor just bought a 2017 SS 1LE ... I hope I get to try it!

I have video somewhere of Allen passing me in his 2SS the first day he had it there, maybe more than once :D

Basically replace the small block Miata in my Avatar with a bright red SS.

The Camaro is no joke on the track and I'd kill for that transmission/programming. The times BMR Tech quoted are pretty accurate. With 450whp, 285/35/19f 305/35/19r MPSS my best I could regularly tick off was in the 1:20s. It wasn't until went to Nitto NT01s (275/40/18) that I could get in the 1:19s. Give me some wider Nittos and I'll gap that mullet. ;)

...But give it similar mods and I'll be looking at its bumper. Unless Kelly is driving. :D

I'm into my '16 PP for $40k CDN by now, so I'm still ahead money wise. More importantly, I love the car, and the Mustang community is fantastic. It'll still kill me to point an SS 1LE by at a track day!

Let's see how the Camaro stacks up against the S550 at Camp Steeda in May. I think the S550 enthusiast will be pleasantly surprised.

Lots of Steeda equipped S550s S197 and Fox bodies!

See ya there!
