I'm doing my first oil change not only on this car but ever today. I am at 2580 Miles.
I have ramps, 10 quarts(i know i need 8), a filter, pan and the rest of the necessitates. I'm following rules and using Mobil 1 5W-20 Full Synthetic and a motor craft filter recommended from orieleys. I got everything for 160. Probably going to stick with 5K intervals
conventional oil can go 5k easily. Synthetic can go 8-10k easily. The main reason I go to synthetic is to cut my labor in half with less frequent changes. You can do an oil analysis with TBN test from Blackstone where they can determine an optimal oil change level so you arent changing too often.

It appears that the majority of people on this form know more then the very own engineers at ford...Im gonna start a new myth stating that you need to change out your tires at 100 miles because the tires they give you stock on the car aren't regular p-zeros their ford made p-zeroes that blow up prematurely.
While I agree that a lot of people change their oil too frequently, I don't necessarily believe everything in the manual is what the Ford engineers believe either. Car manufacturers want to sell cars. If they think they can sell more cars by stretching maintenance intervals to make people believe they can save money because the car needs less maintenance, I wouldn't put it past them to do just that. Here are a few links to articles about auto manufacturers shortening previously specified oil change intervals. These are cases where the owner's manual was wrong. Now, did the engineers for those companies decide on the OCI, or did the marketing department. I don't know, and don't really care. The only way to really be sure is to get the oil tested. I always use full synthetic and am certain enough of full synthetic to do my first oil change at 5k, then get the oil tested to see how much farther I can stretch the OCI. I probably won't go past 7-8k regardless of the test results, but will happily go that far if test results say I can.

I changed my factory fill at 1500 miles for Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. Changed again at 10,000 miles. I sent a sample of that to Blackstone and got overwhelmingly positive results. They recommend an OCI of 10,500 miles for my engine, with that oil, based on the TBN, amount of metals/insoluables and such. I'm planning on keeping a 10,000 OCI for a while and doing another sample in a couple oil changes to make sure everything is still peachy.

I changed my first oil at 10098 miles and my oil life said 2%.

I like to live on the edge. ;)

i was reading through the manual and it said the dash would light up when the oil needed to be changed based on your driving habits. this true?

the manual says six months or 5k-10k miles with synthetic blend. but also depends on how and where you drive.

I don't think this was mentioned yet, but wouldn't an oil filter magnet would solve the concerns of metal shavings in the oil? That way you get to keep using the factory fill without metal shavings harming your engine in any way. Win/Win

Oil filter magnet? Dude...you don't want metal shavings anywhere near the lube system. Metal shavings would work/cut their way through a paper filter element under the pressure these systems operate at.

The oil filter is supposed to filter out contaminants. I've never heard of metal shavings cutting through the oil filter material, can you cite some sources?

The problem is oil filter is metal, and putting magnets on the outside is not gonna be very strong inside where the oil is. Ever seen a magnetically shielded speaker?
A better way to do this is magnetic drain plug.
