I must be missing something. It's common for volunteer instructors to get discounted fees. Here in TX, generally the fee is waived (except COTA) and lunch provided. But why would that have anything to do with promotion criteria?

Was that the total of the feedback? I would expect for novice group driver there would be more feedback and focused on specific areas for promotion to the next run group.

Maybe worth having a talk with the CDI.

Several point bys is ok, but a good intermediate driver (on decent summer 200TW tires) in a GT would be passing like *all* of the novices :). Its a quick car on a track if you can control it.

i’d ask the lead instructor for advice on what you need to do to move up. I do see how that feedback wasn’t helpful with that goal in mind, but any spin is probably going to rule out a promotion to intermediate that day, so keep that in mind.

They may also have an atypically high bar for intermediates which isn’t a bad thing. One of the local clubs is like that and I respect it. If your traction control is on and kicking in a bunch, thats a strike against you with some clubs. They want to know you can control things yourself and arent relying on the computers to save you.

If you’re not getting held up badly by the traffic in your run group, enjoy the track time and who cares what color your wristband is.

14 track days and still in novice tells me you either can't feel the car or don't know how to listen to instruction.

that is very true, as well as things provided as feedback by instructor - brakes and tires are two things that completely transform this car feel on the track, I would pick them over any other performance upgrade. stock seats are really comfortable, but at the same time not good for track use. having something like Schroth QuickFit should greatly improve seating. all are valid points of feedback in my opinion, so I'm curious if there is some other reason for " f_themselves" reaction to it.

Spinning because of driving bmw line, really? 😄
Remember, it’s never, ever the driver fault 😁😁😁

I'm only designated a novice with BMW club. Took it in stride the first couple events, figured it was normal until they see how you drive. However, during the previous BMW event, a 1st time on track M3 owner spun, he was then moved up to intermediate the next day. He was giving point bys all day long the first day. Friend of mine went 12 track days with his Mustang, remained novice until he brought his BMW to an event; moved up to intermediate the same day.

So 5 differet instructors chose not to promote you and it's because they are all biased?
I'm sure your SLIP ratings contain much more information than you have posted. You may want to share it here to get more opinions, or just take it in a more constructive way. Promotions at BMW CCA are not about how fast you go, it's all about safety and how you advance all the various skills in your SLIP evaluations.

FYI, it's nothing to brag about but I was promoted to intermediate on my 3rd weekend and I never ever owned a BMW in my life. I'm pretty sure the issue is not with your car being a Ford.

And yes, instructors get some goodies for driving along with complete strangers for 2 days in a row, who can potentially send them to a hospital or something worse. I have a lot of respect for this for anyone doing this regardless of what organization or club they are in.
