I've seen a S197 V6 (13-14) with GT badges.. it had pipes and it was pretty loud, but those who know can not mistake the sound of the coyote with the cyclone Lol.. it didn't sound too bad tho.. It was also missing the Grill lights and had the ugly chrome around the grill

I don't know why people do it.. personally I think it's embarrassing.. hell I feel embarrassed when people mistake my stock base EB for a GT, I make it a point to let everyone know "it's only a 4 cylinder" Lol. I might get those 2.3T badges just because.. maybe a 4 Banger sticker or something.. :lol:

And really, to be a little more clear on my point..I live in a very small town where I have literally seen ONE 15+ mustang of any engine/package. It's not a GT. I work in an economically deprived city of 50k that isn't exactly exploding with 15+ models either, which is where I saw the possibly fake GT. My car isn't necessarily common like it may be in bigger places some of you may live in. The whole argument of "there are tons of mustangs", which I heard prior to buying it, really wasn't as significant unless I was looking for something pre 2015. Plus, when people say there are less camaros, it's because they didn't make camaros for several years. Pre 2000, we were loaded with camaros too.

On top of this, finding a black on black performance pack was actually kind of a chore. There were exactly two for 100+ miles in any direction. I did find that odd since black is the most common color (according to my research), but I have no idea how the performance pack numbers compare with the rest. I would wager there's some research done on sales vs my region..I really have no idea.

This feels to me like when unfortunate looking women get glamour shots and post them on facebook. Almost like it's a self confidence problem.

Where's our staff psychologist?? What's in the mid of the fake GT owner?? "Tell me about your mother..your childhood."

People do it. They want their car to be more than it is. I was selling all my performance parts from my S197 and they guy that bought my short shifter had a 13 GT. His car was pretty mean, SC and had long tubes with cat deletes and straight pipe all the way back. Heard him from a mile away. He had Shelby badges all over his car. I told him, don't be that guy. He kind of shrugged it off. People probably thinks it's a Shelby. Anyone that knows a thing or two about mustangs will know for sure that it's misbadged. Those are the only times when it's awkward.

I still say, be proud of it. That's a powerful engine, and in the grand scheme of things among the ricers you're right up there in base and modded performance. I would be just like you though..I would be up front about it.

Yeah.. I don't like it when people mistake my car for a GT or even a V6.. it only happens when I'm parked somewhere walking to the car Lol, once it turns on, they know it ain't a V8

But yeah, I ain't ashamed of my 4 banger.. people quickly change their tone once they hear all that air rushing into the MMR CAI and that blow off.. Lol. I've had a few people tell me: "That things sounds like a jet.."

I too don't think it's right to put a GT badge on a lesser mustang. People will do what they want but I feel it cheapens the car and winds up making the driver have to explain themselves all the time . Turning your car into a tribute car is another thing. Making a GT into a Shelby or Saleen tribute isn't a bad thing as long as you're not just putting decals or badges but actually using the parts. Of course you would have to say it's a tribute car, but it's a hell of a lot easier explaining that then doing what that guy did in the above video. I'm looking to put a P-51 badge on the back of mine as a tribute to the cars namesake. I've also added exterior and interior mods to set mine apart from others, but since there is no P-51 edition Mustang I don't think I'm being a "poser" . I will say that "GTR" edition was a mess.. Especially since the owner clearly had no idea what he was talking about! Lol

Ugh. That answers my question. We were thinking about de-badging the car. As a female driver, well, I wanted it for the trolling of other men folk in the area that seem to cruise up in their cars and rev their motors. Takes away from the surprise that.. I can sorta drive!

I agree 100%.. if I had a GT (someday.. :() I would probably put the EB deck lid on it Lol.. I love the Pony, the GT letters don't look too good to me.

I'll never knock someone for doing whatever they want to their car, but I will never be able to understand the mindset of someone that takes a car and tries to make it something that isn't through the use of cosmetics. Quite often, I find that these instances of "badge engineering" are done half-assed. I see it a lot in Florida, and it's not just Mustangs.

Somebody that lives in my apt complex has a white W221 pre-refresh Mercedes S550. When I first moved in, it had terrible oversized yet racy looking wheels and a Renntech badge on the trunk. I thought maybe the guy just always wanted a big fast Benz so he bought an older S-Class and got a tune from Renntech. Not too farfetched.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago, and I see what I think is the same car but it now has all the correct S65 AMG badges on the outside, including the "V12 Biturbo" front wing badges plus the correct S65 front bumper. This time I thought for a second, "Hmm maybe the guy wanted to go even faster so he traded up for an S65 of similar vintage and color." However, I was immediately suspicious because it still had those same awful wheels. I walked back toward the rear of the car and lo, it still had the standard S550 bumper, completely void of the ubiquitous quad AMG tailpipes, or any tailpipes for that matter.

The owner will probably never have to worry about this because 99.9% of people will see his car and just see a 10yr old Benz, but what if someone approached him because they saw the badges and wanted to ask what it was like owning a 4-door sedan with a massive twin-turbo V12 pumping out 738lb-ft?

That's one of the main reasons I just can't wrap my head around all of it.

Reminds me of a Mustang on display in the NJ dealer showroom when I bought the '86 GT.
I do not remember any specifics about this car other than it was a 4 cylinder Mustang with some kind of dealer-installed, custom ground effects package.
At the back of the car, the bumper/valence had duel exhaust cutouts with bright chrome turn down tips sticking out.
Of course, I was extremely intrigued and bent down under the bumper to see this "duel exhaust" system.
The right side tip was a dummy!!
Hopefully the eventual owner of this car knew what they were buying and was happy with their purchase.

My wife's last two vehicles were an 08 Acadia and now a 13 Explorer. She's not savvy on sports cars and doesn't ask herself what the horsepower is on stuff she's interested in buying. Luckily, I do. Nothing sucks more than insufficient passing power.

Anyway..when she's shopped for these last two vehicles, any time I've suggested one with a single tailpipe she scoffs at it and says it's a "puss exhaust".
