I thought for corrosion its like 5 years unlimited miles or something? I had my hood replaced and i bought my car in 2015. I just showed them the tsb because i was out of the 36k warranty.
Was your car within the 5yr/Unlimited corrosion warranty when they replaced your hood per the TSB? Ford Customer Relations is saying no to my new hood because my 2016 is out of the corrosion warranty period. They also state that the correction of the corrosion problem is VIN specific and my car does not warrant a new hood. I think this is total BS, but they are adamant .
Would you share any documentation you received from Ford agreeing to replace your hood. That could be valuable information for my battle with Ford

You have to be within the 5 year corrosion warranty in order for Ford to cover the repair.

The Ford TSB for 2016+ aluminum panel corrosion coverage is not and was not “VIN” specific. It’s been posted on this sub-forum more times than once and there is no VIN list to it, nor any period to period time frame for VINs:
https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/th...um-panel-corrosion.117031/page-8#post-3057958

Also as stated in a few other threads about Ford Warranty, the Warranty start date on any new Ford starts ticking the day the vehicle was purchased and is put into service.

The 2016+ Corrosion coverage for aluminum panels is 5 years/unlimited mileage, whichever comes first. So yes if you bought a 2016 Ford new at the end of 2015, or within the first few months of 2016, the “5-year” part of the 5/unlimited has certainly expired by now (Nov 2021), image courtesy of @GT Pony:

When did you purchase the 2016?

Yep, after a few telcons with Ford Corporate I must accept that my 2016 Mustang is out of corrosion warranty. It went into service 4/5/16. Although it only has 56,400 miles it is eight months out of warranty. Guess I am SOL, but what really "frost my cookies " is it would appear that Ford has had this aluminum panel corrosion problem going back to their 2000 model year. (according to the TSB's on this subject. You would think after twenty years they would have solved this obvious manufacturing defect. This is my only Ford product since my 1968 Mustang whose engine went "boom" at 150,00 miles. Love everything about this car, but very disappointed with the corrosion problem. Will wait for the repair when the actual rust makes an appearance.

Whenever there are two dissimilar metals together (like the hood on the S550 Mustang) there is a chance there could be corrosion if not manufacturered perfectly. Not every Mustang has this issue, but seems higher than it should be. Even if they tried to improve the manufacturing process there's still going to be some instances. It's a mass produced car, not a spacecraft. Guess Ford would rather pay to replace hoods than improve the manufacturing process quality further.

You got any photos of the area of corrosion?

Currently in the body shop to get the front bumper "refreshed" Previous owner was not too diligent when it came to removing bugs and small paint chips. I'll get you some photos of hood corrosion when it gets home at end of week. Balance of body paint is in excellent condition, with exception of the leading edge of the front hood. Not complaining, since the poor condition of the front bumper saved me thousands during the sales negotiation.

You're better off getting the hood done now as well even if you have to pay out of pocket. They have to blend the panels.

Are there rock chips on the leading edge of the hood where the corrosion is starting? Could be that caused exposure to water/moister that kicked off the corrosion. People need to look at the leading edge of the hood and touch-up any chips ASAP.

No rock chips, just paint bubbles with no rust showing at the moment. Small bubbles on left and right side of leading edge . And, two large bubbles on underside of the front of hood. You will see when I get you some photos this weekend. Considered having hood done with front bumper, but for two reasons; i.e considering replacing hood with new F/G one and my body/paint guy is a master at blending. Trust him implicitly if I decide to repair this hood in future when rust actually appears. Last March my guy repainted the front/rear bumpers and left front fender of my 2002 BMW 3 series. That paint spent 20 years here in the Florida sunshine. He did an incredible job of blending with balance of body paint.

Just got my EB back from body shop and my guy did another fantastic job on the front bumper and the paint blending. As promised have attached some photos of the corrosion on leading edge and under front edge of hood.

good luck! my 06 GT had the same hood issue and I bought it new. Ford paid for 2 repaints, third one was on me. This started in second year of ownership. Last time painted was 2019...summer before it was retired!

Repairing is typically a temporary fix. That's why Ford went from repairing to replacing the hood (per TSB) because they finally realized repairing isn't a permanent solution in most cases.

unfortunately when this occurred (2008, 2009, 2019...)they repainted only....didn't know they are currently replacing. I was going to change the hood to fiberglass at one point but couldn't find one I liked. Hopefully I won't deal with this with the 2021.

Hey Guys: Thanks to all for the feedback . Just sad that Ford has had this manufacturing defect for over 20 years and still has not or would not find a solution. Merry Christmas to all.
