For the X plan definitely check out the Mustang Club of America, $50 to join, with links on their website to the X-plan process. It takes about 3 weeks to get your club card, but when you're ready to make a deal, you print out a certificate to take to the dealer as proof. Plus you get the club's magazine! I plan on ordering my 'stang this spring and will use the X-plan.

Half that if you don't want a hard copy of the magazine.

Just an FYI, if you are an A or X plan participant, the dealer is required by ford to provide you with a copy of the invoice upon request. D and Z plan and the general public are not entitled to a copy.

Here is a snipit from the plan rules under the dealer requirements

  • The AXZD-Plan Pricing Agreement must identify the X-Plan price, the price of each dealer-added option, negative equity on vehicle trade, gifts, and any other allowable fees and taxes. A copy of the factory invoice showing the New Vehicle Purchase Program price in the box labeled or "X-Plan" and a completed, signed copy of the AXZD-Plan Pricing Agreement must be given to the customer.
I get Z Plan and get an invoice copy. Per your link (below) all plans are supposed to get an invoice.

1. Amount listed on invoice for line item labeled “A/Z” Plan, “D” Plan or “X” Plan. Copy of Invoice must be given to the $ customer.

X-plan is really just a fair price at best. Costco auto program is typically invoice less about $500. Anyone should be able to negotiate at least a little better than Costco pricing. If not, it's time to try another dealer.

Curious, How does one get in on those plans?
I depends on who you work for. "A" plan is for current ford employees, D is for dealership employees, Z is for retired ford employees, and X (which I get) is for current employees of a supplier. You can also get x plan if you buy a certain minimum number of shares in ford stock and keep them for a prescribed amount of time.
Close relatives (e.g. parents, children, etc) can also get Z plan (must be requested by employee and limited to so many a year). So you can marry or adopt into a Z
