I have a procharged gt that im looking to change manifold on. I would like a strong midrange or tq increase. But also looking to get anice power number increase. Im deciding between f150 or a 18 manifold.i want to keep good driveablity to.
Unfortunately without touching anything else (eg. boost level) you can't really have both. If there was that magical manifold that gained strong midrange and also had a nice power increase then everyone would have and you'd know about it by now.
F150 has the midrange but won't gain you any power. 18 will gain you power over 6000ish but will most likely give up some midrange or at worst be the same.
The F150 manifold is going to choke a centri SC's potential at the top end. Frankly you'll be happy enough with the stock manifold unless you want to get to 7,600 RPM and still be making power. That's a lot of engine speed and a lot of heat. I've been in PC cars before... you will not be wanting for speed. An quite frankly having a little less torque immediately makes it possible to actually drive the thing on street tires once and while, so... be excited.
Dyno comparison of manifolds. If you looking at mid-range torque, I don't think the '18 is gonna do anything for you. Looking at the dyno, the F-150 manifold sweet spot is clearly that 4-5k RPM range. It's the best in the biz at that RPM range. However, the stocker ain't that bad, and it's certainly better than the other two (18 or GT350).
The problem is, you've already invested in a centrifugal SC. The F-150 manifold is tapping out and robbing you of RPM that your SC thrives in. The 18 is a poor mans GT-350...does everything the GT-350 does a little better, except above that 71-7200 RPM range. But in the range you want, the 18 (and the GT-350) come up short. There is that yucky dip in the torque curve 44-4800 where the 18 just barely eclipses the stocker, but above that the stocker comes roaring back and the 18 dips.
The dip in torque between the stocker 'soft spot' and the 18 'soft spot' is alarming. The stock manifold maybe doesn't quite have the high end lungs of the 18, but its torque curve is far more usable. Unfortunately your stuck between a rock and a hard-place. No other manifold is going to do you better than the stock 15-17.
I have the F-150 intake on E85 and it pull harder than my stock manifold all the way to 7k. It's an obvious improvement. On a boosted application I would stick with the stock GT intake.
