I know this topic has come up before but the thread seemed to rapidly go off topic, so I'm looking for clarification. I currently have the Roush axleback with the factory resonator on my car and am looking to get something a bit louder (but not too loud due to cops/neighbors/daily driver/etc...). Pretty much narrowed it down to the borla s type catback, but I don't want it to be too quiet either. Is the borla s type noticeably louder than just the roush axleback? I've tried the resonator delete with the roush and that was way too loud/sounded bad imo, so not gonna go that route again.

I have Borla S Type Catback. Not certain how loud Roush is compared to it. It's perfect for me but my g/f hates it and complains. So yeah perfect loudness imo lol.

Cold starts are pretty loud but once its warm they aren't so bad. Cruising no drone and slightly louder than stock. WOT its got a nice aggressive sound to it.

The S types drone, especially on the freeway in sixth. It's not terrible, but I always laugh when people say there is "no drone." That's just hogwash. Any time where there's no resonators in the system and someone says there's "no drone," take it with a grain of salt. As far as how it sounds, it sounds decent at WOT but its pretty freaking raspy otherwise.

Easiest and cheapest thing to install a x-pipe or h-pipe. If you have basic hand tools and a sawsall, you should be able to it I did mine in about an hour on Jack stands. Sounded amazing. Definitely loud, but not too much. Once u didn't catless headers, it was too much with the roush mufflers and Xpipe.

If it's too loud with the Xpipe or h, you can easily put the stock resonator back it.

I believe the S-type is not louder than the Roush, when both are used with resonator.

You can generally tell by the size of the muffler and I believe Borla's is larger than the Roush isn't it? So Borla may be quieter.

Thanks for the responses. To further clarify my question, I'm talking about roush axleback with the resonator vs borla s type catback with the x pipe, I know the roush with the resonator delete is loud as hell, I've already done that and then put the resonator back on because it was too loud, and in my opinion sounded horrible around 4k rpm.

The Borla catback will be just a bit louder, but not much. It sounds fantastic, also.

The S-type is one of the loudest of the mid-level volume catbacks, but still not near the level of the Xtreme/Roush + res. delete.

Not true with Corsa systems though

No it doesn't. You can hear it, yes, but it's not drone. Corsa is the best for interior volume, though. Darn near silent at cruise (no louder than stock unless you give it decent throttle).

Yes it does. It goes rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr at various RPM levels in various gears, but especially in the 2000-2500 rpm range in 6th.

I guess every car is a little different then. My friend's car has the S-type and it doesn't drone. You hear it back there but it doesn't fill up the cabin with sound when cruising, nor resonate.

That's nothing. It's barely there. I wouldn't consider it drone at all compared to other exhaust catbacks I've owned.

Hmm i wouldnt say drone sounds rrrrrrrrrr....lol i'd say its more of a very anoying hummmmmmmmm...but wtv to each his own.

Anyway, back to op, I have an xpipe paired with slp lm2 and its very deep, almost no rasp at all, and no drone at all in higher gears while cruising. Keep in mind drone will have to do with gearing too. My 3.73 rarely see the 1,500-2,000 range.
