Exhaust newbie questions

So I want to mod my exhaust. I am older and want more rumble but not a lot. I guess I want the most conservative upgrade to sound. So questions

Is Ford touring catback the best choice for my need?

Will a cat back system require any other tune or mod?

Well if you are looking for alittle rumble i suggest either solo performance mach-xv

ford touring is alittle raspy from what i keep hearing.

and no tune will be required unless you add long tube headers

If you just want a little rumble, I'd stick with the stock resonator and only buy an axleback system.

Alternatively, doing just a resonator delete (either with an X or H pipe) will be cheap and also get you a conservative sound upgrade.

The touring catback will definitely be louder, but more conservative. Also, check out the Borla S-Type.

If you want the exhaust even quieter, go with what aschaefer said. Keep the stock resonator and add an axle back system, OR just an X/H pipe. If I'm not mistake, an H Pipe will yield more of a deep muscle car tone.

A tune is NOT needed for just a catback, axleback, or resonator delete.

You WILL need a tune if you add headers down the road.

RIBS, I feel like a Magnaflow spokesman, for deep tone, you just can't beat it. Look at the Magnaflow street option in either axle back or catback. From what I have read, sounds like what you are looking for. Low rumble, just a bit more sound than stock. Check out the videos and read the customer feedback on the aftermarket sites. I found the feedback to be the best info.

H pipe plus Magnaflow Streets, you get a nice rumble and it isn't overly loud...unless you go catless.

I picked up and installed a magnaflow comp axleback today from UPR since they're 10 minutes away. Perfect balance, deeper and a little louder but not raspy or obnoxious

First, decide when you DO hear wide open throttle (WOT) do you like to hear deep rumble (H-Pipe) or rasp (X-Pipe). I like rasp so I went with the Ford Racing by Borla Touring. It is loud as a loud pick up truck on a cold start but calms down in 10-15 seconds (thinking of your neighbors). It is louder but controllable unless you're at WOT. You could also look at the Borla S type and then add their resonator later if too loud for another $200+. That's kind of a long expensive route. You could buy just the X-Pipe from AM or CJ's for $200+ plus the cost of cutting and welding. That's probably your cheapest route. I spent over $1300 for mine, and I love it, but if I had to do it on the cheap, I'd do that. I think it is the resonator that limits the noise and power the most. The rest is just tweaks on sound and further breathing.

We dont have a street axle-back quite yet, but we would agree, the street catback is a great system that is both conservative and deep at the same time. Very easy to control the volume with your right foot! Here's a quick comparison of the stock exhaust vs our street system:
