I am going to be installing a 3" cat back system. I intend to wrap the areas near the trans and diff. I have a few questions for those of you who have wrapped your system in one or both of these areas. I have one package of DEI wrap which I believe is two 50'pieces.

1.) Am I correct that I have 100' of wrap?

2.) How much wrap does it require to wrap 3" pipes in the areas of the trans and the diff?

3.) Did you use the silicone spray protectant? How long did it last?

4.) If you have temp gauges on the trans and diff, how much of a difference did it make? Under what conditions?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Have you considered a ceramic coating ?

I know ceramics can help, but I don’t know which option wins for that particular area / application.

Trans & rear housing, end to end better figure on another 200ft. Two things come into play first the 3" pipe eats up the wrap and the space/overlap. Also every bend the overlap gets tighter and takes more wrap.

Trying to write it, is best seen, Streight area the over overlap is 1" Down in the bend it's less

This right here is 100FT ...

Wrap from the rear towards the front. Otherwise the exposed edge of the wrap will grab the air passing over it and fray it.
I’ve done headers back in the day, and the wrap works quite well. Just don’t allow any oils to get onto it.

OK, that answers one question. I will have to pick up another package of the wrap so that I can do the trans area, also. Rapid Red did you spray black silicone on that?

Luc, thanks for your input. For track use what viscosity grade gear oil do you recommend? I do not have an issue with changing it as I get pretty good pricing on my lube needs.

TexasMetalic5. I was aware, but thanks for the heads up!

No it's dry, Black TITANIUM is the weave. You can always return what is not used. I hate to get going on a project and run short. Like plumbing get more fittings, and have a better chance to finish.

I’m curious, did you run the 75-140 gear lube before wrapping the exhaust near the Diff. ?
What grade metal and size tubing is your exhaust at the Diff. ?
Thx

It’s the factory exhaust
I did the oil first, then the wrap
My car is a pp1 with a 3.73 Torsen so I’m sure that create a bit more heat

I wrapped mine in the diff area with two of the 50ft pieces. Made 3 layers of wrap. Dropped my diff temp during normal driving by 10 to 15 degrees. Have had no overheat issues while on the track. I upgraded the oil also but stayed at factory weight.

Same question for reference only, what grade metal and tube size ?
Thx,
Give Motul Gear Competition 75-140 a try. The shop I know uses this in GT3 Cup cars and there typically is a temperature reduction with that gear lube.

Any chance of a picture? Are you saying that 50' of wrap would cover each pipe 3x's? Or can you give a comparison to Rapid Reds pic?

Right now, I am leaning toward getting another package of 2 x 100' rolls in order to do the diff and use the 2 x 50' that I have now for the trans area along with the vis change in the diff.
