2021 GT with PP and MT-82...car has 1,700 miles on it now and is completely stock. Car gets 93 octane consistently. Was driving it yesterday and noticed that the engine shuts down prior to the redline. I was in 2nd gear and winding it out and right around 7,200 rpm the car fell flat on its face. Is this normal?

Thanks in advance.

It depends on what "winding it out" means to you. Did you have the pedal to the floor, accelerating hard at 7,200 in second gear such that it probably flew past redline long before the digital readout could catch up? Or were you moderating the throttle and just caching up to 7,200?

If it falls on its face, you're hitting the limiter for sure. Maybe the tach is behind, I'd want to see what the PCM's max RPM is on a scan tool in a case like this. Or maybe on the 21 they lowered the redline? Lol

I started out in 2nd gear about 3,000 rpm...foot flat to the floor...watched the tach swing past 7,000 rpm and right around 7,200 rpm....felt like I hit the brakes.

I don't see the REV limiter as a nanny control, every race car has one ?

OP

never lifted ? The motor spun up faster then you could grab the next gear, hitting & bouncing off the limiter.

Neither do I. Not sure what you are getting at.

Nannies can cut power though, yes? It is most likely the Rev limiter as you have said. I also think that the rev limiter doesn't work as some expect it to.

Oh, NASCAR didn't have rev limiters back in the day - they change that rule recently?

My 18 PP1 6sp does the same thing... You have to watch the tach like a hawk our you run all over the rev limiter when running it through the gears.

This video is flat into the rev limiter around 20 seconds. I don’t know what you expect the car to do, but the response is probably similar.

That's the rev limiter.
It's supposed to step in at 7400 rpm, but on WOT the engine will get from 7200 to 7400 faster than you can blink. :)

That and the tach isn't 100% accurate and hard to pinpoint the exact RPM you are at, so you may think you're at 7200 but really at 73-7400 where the limiter is at.
