Don't have it yet :) and I was kind of thinking there would be different recommendations between the gt and ecoboost...

There's a copy in the Wiki in PDF format. Link is on the topmost menu.

See all the conflicting info I'm getting here? :D

Keep in mind I'll be keeping this engine for ever and ever and ever...
Talk to any engine builder and they will tell you what ultraklassic said above. An engine broken in properly will make more power, use less oil, and generally operate more efficiently through it's entire life than one that was not properly run-in.

I used Line Lock when leaving the dealership and it had 26 miles on it! Just kidding, it was raining so I couldn't, lol. Typically I don't shift above 3k rpms until the engine oil reaches normal temp and then I don't baby it. Modern engines don't need to be babied during break in and I definitely drove it hard in order to have the rings seal properly. I varied speeds and rpms. I aggressively downshifted and varied speed and rpm on the highway from day 1. Took it to redline on day two and dumped the clutch at 3.5 k. The funnest break in ever!

You don't have to vary anything. Seating the rings comes from pressure generated inside the cylinders. Wick HARD and let the engine slow the car down, wash, rinse, repeat minimum of 10 times. The less miles on the car the better.

After the rings are seated you can drive like a grandma all you want. It's not rocket science.

I did a quick pull up to 6 k with 100 miles on it. Then went out on the Hiway and ran it 100 miles each night in 4th to 6th gear varying the RPM.. Also using the lower gears to get the RPMs up to 5 to 6 K.. but then decelerating to engine brake. Putting pressure on the rings both ways. Accelerating and decelerating. The manual says dont tow or run the engine hard until 1000 miles. At 980 miles I took my car to the Sebring Race track for a DE.
I did Four 25 minute sessions redlining the engine and taking the car up to 125 mph.. No issues so far.

I have broken in BMW engines - seated the rings by doing 10 sessions of timed runs with cool down in between. Sort of like Dyno runs. Then taken the track car out with this new engine and done a 12 hour endurance race. No issues burning oil..

Yep - no. I'm talking about the turbo ecoboost :) (my first turbo car too...)

Beat it like it owes you money a lot. Tons of higher rpm engine braking and varying speeds on the highway. Ive broken all my engines like this over the past 30 years. Piston rings always have seated very well and rarely had any cars consume oil. At most half a quart in 5000 miles. Those were on a couple turbo applications. Ive also broken in all my built motors like this as well or on a dyno.
The only way to go. Where I work, we have a fleet of the same car. The ones that get broken in and used by the average employee vs the cars that are dainty driven by supervisors and mostly sit, are vastly different in speed. Noticeable seat of the pants difference

So, on crowded roads and with an auto that loves doing 2k RPM it was a bit tricky but I ended up doing 8 or so pulls in 3rd from around 2-3k to 5.5-6k (not quite full throttle though as I was told to avoid that?) and then tried my best to let the engine brake me back down... this was during the first 100km of the cars life. (Some bare roads for the first 150km so I could use S on the transmission and not fly off the road at quick acceleration...)

Did a couple more "pulls" a bit later (at around 150km) just for fun and to be safe...

Hope this is what folks meant :) For the rest 400km or so I tried to vary the RPM even if it meant driving a bit too fast and using the down shift to force gear changes. Had to have it in D and Snow&Wet for the most part of the drive so a bit tricky.

Hope I managed to "set" the "rings"... (I'm absolutely no mechanic so I'm just going by what I read about the 4 bangers and MCs in the link posted previously...) Oh and the car was "pretty" warmed up at this point seeing as I started in a heated garage and drove it about 80km "normally" before I got to the high way...

It certainly didn't feel like a slouch ;) I just want it to live a long and fast life :D

This engines are already broke in when you take delivery. Ford does engine dino before installing. Just run it like you stole it.

Tell me it isn't so!?

A guy I know worked at the ford plant 30 years ago or so, he told me they broke in the ring and pinions, never heard of the engines getting that kind of prep, would be cool.
