Hi guys, so as the new mustang deliveries are underway. Can I ask how people plan to break their engines in? Ive never owned a V8 so am quite keen to know if these is a break in period or not and if so how we should be driving these during that time.

Thanks

From what I've seen on the forums its 500 miles driven softly, varying revs on the motorway rather than holding steady and, of course, never rev it out when its cold.

You should be golden with that set-up, FWIW.

I agree - start gently; don't over rev or labour the engine. Don't drive at steady speeds / revs for too long (a few minutes) ,and be gentle with the tyres for the first couple of hundred miles or so. Then you can start to open it up a bit more. I personally won't go for wide open throttle or max revs until I have done more than 1,000 miles or so.
Modern engines don't need the kind of break in and early oil change of years ago - synthetic oil and better engine build quality have seen to that.
Be careful on doing a long journey to clock up the miles - it is tempting to sit at 70 with the cruise control on, if you do that just make sure to vary the engine revs every 10 minutes or so for a minute or so.
I may well be over cautious but I intend to keep mine for a while!

Drive normally no more than half throttle or over 4000rpm (which should be plenty for normal driving) for the first 1000 miles also but also don't baby it either.
Start engine and let idle for a minute or two and the drive off gently. If your commute is mostly interstate I would recommend taking a different route so you don't drive the car at high speed when still warming up and staying at same speed and same gear. You want to use all gears and vary load and speed.
