Excellent video that focuses on engine bay cleaning.

I use the same process using the similar tools and chemicals. While I use Green Star, I don't foam it because I find it can be very difficult to rinse, which you can see in the video.

If you did want to use foam, I would swap the Green Star for something like NV Snow+ or Carpro Lift. Otherwise, Green Star or any APC sprayed and then scrubbed as shown in the video. I would also swap the Motorplaste for Meg's Hyper Dressing, Motorplaste is a touch too glossy for my taste.

I just recently started watching his stuff. I like it cause it's simple and to the point 🤷🏻‍♂️

In the video posted above, he used Koch Chemie Motorplast, which is a water-based dressing that self levels as it dries. I prefer Meguiar's Hyper Dressing because you can tailor it to suit your taste, from gloss to satin to barely there, it also self-levels. Carpro Perl or 303 Protectant work well too.

Koch-Chemie - Motorplast | The Rag Company
Meguiar's D170 Hyper Dressing, 32 oz. (meguiarsdirect.com) (If you go for the RTU version, you would probably further dilute that again to make it less glossy.)
CARPRO PERL 500ml (17oz) (carpro-us.com)

That MP is pretty wild. Watched the vid and he just soaked the entire engine bay. I was like, guessing you rinse that off? nope lol.

I like MP, it works great. It is glossy when done though, and does attract dust over time. But looks awesome for quite a while.

So you really use it like in the vid? Soak the whole engine bay when it's still wet? Does it leave everything feeling oily?

I don't go quite as hard as he does. I do spray over it all though, when wet yes.. And I shut the hood and clean the rest of the car. Then I open the hood and go around with a towel and soak up the puddles. It does leave puddles in low areas. But for the most part it levels down really nice...

Motorplast and Hyper Dressing are fine to be applied to the whole engine bay, and best done on a wet surface.

In terms of an "oily" finish, not really. You apply quite liberally, then leave it alone. As the product dries, it self-levels/self distributes to deliver a dry to touch finish. You may need to go over the engine bay after a few hours with towel to mop up anything left standing. Other than that, simply spray and walk away, a process that beats a more tedious approach.

This is why I prefer Hyper Dressing, once dry, it doesn't cling onto dust. And if diluted out, you won't have any gloss. I use it at either 4:1 or 5:1 and love the subtle enhancement it delivers.

I agree, Sean, at least at first. watched a couple vids as well but too glossy for my brain. :=)

Dust is unrelenting down in these parts so that's another deal breaker for me, Alex.

Thanks for the memory bump on HD, dude and no "cling" and no "hyper gloss" is what I'm after. Luckily, HD is available locally at AutoZone so I'm gonna pick up a bottle and give it a whirl..thanks again.

I like the look fortunately. MP is good for me. If I used anything else I would use Perl diluted 4:1. I have and it works great too.

I know you have Carpro Perl already, that can work just fine for engine bays at 4:1 as suggested.

With Hyper Dressing, it's available in the pre-diluted RTU form and gallon form. For guys like us, don't buy the gallon, it will take you two decades to get through. The RTU version is diluted at 1:1 which is too strong for engine bays, it will be greasy and not dry properly. For the RTU, I would cut 50/50 with demineralized water.

RTU -
Meguiar's D170 Hyper Dressing, 32 oz. (meguiarsdirect.com)

Gallon -
Meguiar's® D170 Detailer Hyper-Dressing, 1 Gallon (meguiarsdirect.com)

(Can I take this opportunity to say how absolutely terrible the Meguiar's and Meguiar's Direct websites are. Unacceptably slow to respond, the search function is dim witted, overall not something I find easy or enjoyable to visit. No excuses Meguiar's in this era.)

Obsessed Garage have started to offer pre-diluted (at 4:1) Hyper Dressing, along with smaller
32-oz concentrate. They used to do this but stopped due to product shortages, they are the only ones offering a smaller 32-oz bottle of the concentrate, which is a far more manageable size. I actually bough one from them a few years ago and still have heaps left.

It just dawned on me, D when I saw the bottle of HD with Megs' label, is OG's HD the same product?! If so, I already have it under the OG brand in the same liter bottle and, it's my favorite tire dressing now.

I can be pretty slow on the uptake sometimes. <smile>

OG Tire Dressing and Hyper Dressing are different products.

Matt is buying Hyper Dressing in bulk, then bottling either the concentrate or a diluted solution, both of which are being put into OG-spec 32-oz bottles and labels. Hence the familiar look to the bottles, the blue colouring is coincidence. The gallon size if direct from Megs. Actually, I'm not sure how he managed to convince Megs to use their name on his label/bottle design.................perhaps he didn't ask?

The Tire Dressing comes from another supplier, I think it was B&B Blending. Again, its delivered in bulk and bottled into 32oz or gallon bottles with OG-spec labels.
