More than likely they'll deny any & all warranty work on the engine if they discover that tune unfortunately.

Unfortunately Ford can deny warranty work for those mods and there is a good chance they will. Any idea what the build date was on the car?

People need to do a pull in this weather and send the logs to their tuner.... Once the cold comes in people who got their car's tuned in the summer start popping motors.

That reminds, doing a pull tomorrow lol.

Not only will they deny warranty they SHOULD deny warranty. Ford shouldn't be on the hook for a car that has been changed that much from the factory parameters.

I wouldnt take what these GT guys say to heart, they are a little touchy about our I-4. Considering some of them get beat by a modified Eco unless they are willing to add force induction.

There are Ford reps on this forum, I'd take this post down ASAP if it isnt too late.

Switch everything back and try to temove the tune. So far ive had a fuel pump replaced, an ecu, and various other works done with full bolt ons.

No, those GT guys understand that everybody - including I-4 guys at the end pay for people that warranty their blown engines due to moronic mods. One has to be pretty dumb to think this cost at the end is absorbed by Ford.

Well let's see, my bolt on GT ran low 11's. Does your 4-banger do that?

Tune is most likely responsible for that type of failure and sadly I think your brother will be denied warranty work. That's why I was so adamant on using an OE type of tuning process back in the TST optimization thread, which focuses more on reliable operation under ALL environmental conditions, from temperature to humidity and elevation, at least for daily drivers.

Knock and detonation actually is more severe in cold weather than warm, the higher air density increases engine power output, knock events or detonation (which is severe knock) events occur with greater energy.

There are really two options that tune with an OE like focus that I"m aware of (there may be others), Ford Performance and Livernois, both of which focus more on OE reliability than squeezing the most power out of the engine.

Livernois is located in Dearborn Michigan so they have some fairly extensive cold weather testing to my knowledge. I would imagine Ford Performance does as well especially since they off their 36k miles supplemental warranty.

Here's a conversation I just had with LMS via their online chat (I also got the same info via e-mail when I first started modding as temperature was a big concern):

are there any concerns about running these tunes during winter weather?

You (change name)
Ohio can get down to -20 on the absolute coldest days
I know you guys are in Michigan, which has about the same climate

LMS
All tunes for your vehicle are good to run all year around, we have tested them on our ecoboost here in the winter as well.

You (change name)
ok, that's good to know, I just read yesterday some one popped an ecoboost mustang running "unleashed" when the temps dropped

You (change name)
seems to be a common thing for may of these "shop tuned" cars

LMS
I can neither speak here nor there on whether their tune had anything to do with that, But I know our tunes are safe to run year round.

You (change name)
are there any caveots such as scaling back to 91 tune and using 93 or can I just run 93 on the 93 tune?

You (change name)
aka do I need to run a higher octane as a buffer? or is the 93 safe to use 93 on all year?

LMS
You can run either or, alot of guys do the scaling back as just a slight power reduction to accomodate the temp drop
But you should be just fine running 93 year round

Agreed - and I had a pretty decent tune on my last car (Taurus SHO, Livernois 93octane tune) and would NOT have expected Ford to replace the motor if it grenaded. Tunes are GREAT but you have to understand the risk and not whine when the manufacturer denies a claim.
