it has an engine!
Not the case with the Whipple 2.9. I've only seen one 2.9 break 1k. It's was with a s197 with head work.

Hense why I'm going twin. Mor powa!
That's why I mentioned it was with turbo.

The only two means of force induction I'll ever use for any build is turbo or Centri. I couldn't be less interested in any PD blowers.

Personal opinion^ Ford Chevy. If I weren't going for more, I would have stayed Whipple. IMO one of the best 700hp on 93 setups for this platform. Had a great tune and drove stock. I just can't leave shit alone. Lol

Haha. No different guy. But he has blown atleast one aluminator.
yup, that would be me "coyote killer" :frusty:

....killed the alluminator in my Hellion car at 960 ish rwhp. It was #8 piston and may have been related to tune/heat. Block looked good at first but found out the cylinder walls were pitted when I wanted to reuse it building a spare.

A few years back I did snap the crank off the alluminator in my 12 running a 2.9 whipple and 20 % lower.( That was my first "kill")

Non sleeved built block (Manley rods/pistons) with water jacket supports in the KB car looked like it was holding @mid 900;s till the block cracked in the valley.

Even with a sleeved block ,shit can happen. Sleeved 5.2 that replaced the alluminator in the hellion was running like a champ@ 1100 rwhp till head gaskets blew," hydrolocked" the block and bent the rods. Sleeved block was still good but needed new rotating assembly.

I think at 1000 hp shit can happen whatever you do. You may be lucky and have no issues or you may have my luck.

...........I am tempted to find out how much stronger the 5.2 alluminator XS is:frusty:

.......seems like I am a glutton for pain!

Don't cry for me though. lol

I have a feeling I am almost through the woods.

.....but starting to think having a spare long or short block ready to go is a good idea.... at least with the luck I have had.Lol

I have had many blowers in my time and I've had every Whipple from a 2.9l to a 4.5l, I've always wanted to do a turbo setup. I have now taken the plunge and have ordered the Boost Works kit with twin 62/66 comp turbo's hoping to make more power with less boost and no strain on that tiny 1.250 inch crank snout with a undercut radius.
How far did you get with the whipple 2.9? Wondering if you're going to do a build thread on the process to convert to turbo?

Thanks so far for everyones ideas and comments, for me a aluminator is not the choice on my goals, I would rather spend the money into building my engine and think it would come out stronger , I still havent made up my mind but whipple says it has some good upgrades in the near future but no idea what they are gona be. And converting to turbo would be an option but I love the instant tire shredding torque but lets see what happens after I boost it up more and going to start thinking if I had turbo same boost would net me some better et and then you start to want to change your setup

The PD torque is very challenging to get it to hook especially from a dig. Most people never set it up right to make that happen. All the torque down low is hard on the engine and drivetrain compared to turbo. Also as they say spinning isn't winning. Turbo or bust

I don't take this car to the track I've done that with many other cars but not this one. I haven't had the car on the dyno either but if I had to guess I'd say it's making 650 rwhp as it feels slow to me, mind you I had a pro street car than ran 6.55 @ 210 mph so not much feels fast to me lol. I'm still on the MT82 trans and I'm sure it's going to fail at some point, so I'm up in the air which direction I want to go auto or Tr 6060. Also not sure if I want to build the short block or press my luck with the stock one at 850 - 900 rwhp, there is only so much money I am willing to throw at it. There really isn't much to tell about the conversion you get the parts and bolt them on lol.

The whipple was on my Shelby GT500. I've played with all types of FI, they all have their trade offs, I'm just addicted to the way a turbo pulls.

Size matters, Whipple 2.9L is rated at 1800CFM. A 4.2L Kenne Bell will make 1400whp at 21 psi. What's your point? Twin 55mm turbos will make 700whp at 21psi, twin 98's will make 2500whp. I don't get it
FYI I got twin 55's and put down 920 rwhp at about 15.5 lbs of boost.

I did the aluminator route and sold the old motor to offset the cost. I'd of been better off building. I still had to have the cs put in and I did valve springs as well. What a fuck story that was. I installed the livernois springs by the recommendation of my tuner and was getting valve float at 10.5 lbs of boost. Went back into the motor and had the mpr springs installed and as of now she's running strong. Don't want to go any higher for fear of the block. I could've built fully sleeved motor for what I have into my aluminator.
