I put e85 in my mower. It will run with no load but as soon as I engage PTO it dies. Can I add octane booster and burn it out?

Isn't the idea of E85 to have higher octane than regular gas?

Drain the tank and carb, refill and mow is my suggestion.

Lawn equipment isn't setup to run high concentration of E fuels.

Haven't had a mower in about 5 years now, (got rid of all the grass) but occasionally I would run mix from my two stroke quad in it. (100 octane unleaded with Yamalube mixed 32:1.) Sure did smell good! Probably ran a few tanks of it over the 15 years I had the mower. Never an issue! Of course, it was just a cheap push mower.

I agree with RonsterGT, get that E85 out of there and refill with standard gas.

The problem is in order for your lawnmower to run on E85, you likely will need a tune - dyno preferably, but remote may work w/ data logging. Furthermore, your fuel system may require a substantial upgrade to deliver the required E85. While the lawnmower may consume more gas after the conversion, the added power will enable you cut through tall grass, weeds, tree stumps and gopher heads. Most devotees of E85 happily accept the diminished efficiency for the improved cutting ability.

Actually if you make the jet about 40% larger it will run E85 just fine. Probably add a few Lb/Ft of torque.

You'll have to re-jet the carb to get the mixture right but that alone won't get you more power. For that you'll have to mill down the head and run the timing up. Be careful on your first test run though, don't want to pull a Mustangs at Cars and Coffee and put that mower through the fence.

The extra O2 will net you some gain in power even without adding compression. MBT for E85 is less than MBT for gas. So adding timing may or may not add power.

I run turbo blue in my rider, cheap at 8 bucks a gallon and no E. Sat for 4 months with the same gas and started first hit of the key. Smells good also.

E10 gas and small engines do not mix, the coming E15 will destroy current small engines.

In a pinch I threw some Ignite Red in my old push mower and it burned through a full tank of gas no issues. Had to keep that throttle full tilt through, as soon as it backed off the tiniest bit it died.
